Delphie's POV

I gently opened the seal on the letter from Ootori. I gently tugged out the paper. I bet it's the medical bill for me going to the hospital. Or it's a reminder my surgery is the day after tomorrow. Which one? I gently slide the paper out of the envelope.

Lilac came over and sat across my desk from me, "Dear, you can unfold the paper." I said, "I'm thinking it's a medical bill. Remember how I told you I'm getting the tumors removed Thursday." A gentle sigh left her lips, "It'll be okay. I'm always here for you."

I pulled to paper out and extended it out in front of me. I closed my eyes then opened them again looking down at it.

'Miss Delphie Hontozuru,

I'm sorry if this comes across as crude. We wish no ill will upon you. You are by no means forced to accept. Yet this is a hopefully a beneficial engagement proposal to you. The 3rd son of the Ootori family, Kyoya Ootori, has expressed an interest to be engaged to you. Kyoya is a person of high intellectual talents and pursuits. We have the belief that you would match the pursuits and have a positive marriage. Resulting in a successful gain to each of our enterprises. That is why we cordially extend this proposal to you. Please inform us with your decision.

Sincerely, Yoshio Ootori
Kyoya Ootori'

I looked across the table and my blue eyes locked with Lilac's. I let out a faint breath, "Lilac..." She responded, "Yes dear?" I let out, "It is an engagement proposal." Lilac grinned, "Oh, well what do you know about this Ootori?"

I felt a light smile grace my face, "His name is Kyoya Ootori. He's in class 2-A like me. He always writes in the black notebook, most people call him the shadow king. But I don't see it, he comes across as a caring person to me. But I believe he himself is held back. Probably by his family, like I once was."

Lilac squealed, "You already like him!" I tilted my head a little, "Maybe I do..." Lilac chimed, "Then accept it. You'd become Delphie Grace Ann Hontozuru-Ootori. Cause you'd probably keep your last name." Lilac smile was large, bright and contagious.

I opened a document on my computer and started to type. But then I noticed the letter from Mar. Lilac rushed out of the room excited to spread the news. Once she closed the door I gently opened the letter from Mar.

'Delphie Hontozuru I have a business proposal to offer you. Let's meet up at Shell Hotel's prestigious dinner the Dolphin. -Fredrick Mar'

I stared at the paper, more confused than anything else. Business proposal? My business is fine. I can't give him any tips in the business. I can't lose what I have... But I know deep down inside me, I'm the failure. Yet that means I can't let anyone else take me under!

I took a piece of paper out and wrote but kept messing up. If I send him anything mean it'll get Hope Enterprise bad media. I sighed slipping the proposal from Kyoya in my top desk drawer. Then slowly putting the paper from Mar into the paper shredder. If it was never "received" of course I couldn't answer it.

I gently tapped away at the keys on my computer.

'Dear Ootoris,'

Kyoya's POV

I opened the mail expectantly on Wednesday. Then again on today after I got home. Yet I didn't see a single letter from Delphie. I let out a sigh going into the house and up to my room. I waited as the hours ticked by until it became 5pm.

I called our hospital, "Connect me to surgeon Gregory Denoro.(Day-nor-O)" The lady said, "May I ask who's calling?" I let out, "Kyoya Ootori." Almost immediately I was forwarded. I heard the familiar gruff voice, "Hey. Who is it?"

I felt nervous, "Surgeon Denoro, it's Kyoya Ootori." He said, "What's the matter sir?" His gruff voice had came across a little rough. I said, "How did the 2-4 surgery on Delphie Hontozuru's brain tumors go?" He said slightly reluctantly, "Oh... that..."

I don't like that voice at all. I spoke, "Sir, how did the surgery go? What's her current condition?" He let out, "Well, she is currently stable. Yet during surgery there was a complication. We removed the two smaller of the three no problem..."

I let out exasperated, "Then what of the large one?!" He said, "Sir, that tumor is in a really bad spot. We're starting another surgery at 8pm to focus on that one." I said, "What's so troublesome about it?"

He sighed, "Well... The thing is... if it's removed wrongly it could cause minor paralysis up to paralysis of the whole body. Also it is right on the artery supplying the most blood to her brain... with that in mind. That artery being damaged at all could result in... death."

I stared at my wall as though it was interesting beyond belief. My voice let out shakily, "What's the chances?" He said, "I'd place it based of me doing it... Perfect surgery 30%, some minor paralysis but otherwise perfect 30%, paralysis or brain bleeding and trauma 20% and a 20% chance of death."

I let out slightly angry, "It should lean towards the more positive 60%." He said, "Yes sir. Yet I'm stating it the way it is. Last time I was called in for one like this was 20 years ago. And I was only the main assistant to Surgeon Frec Guzo. But sadly he passed away 10 years ago at 76. You know he has the best surgeon record ever on file at your hospitals."

He took a deep breath, "The man was expected to die, he was 35... But Guzo... he saved him, yet the man was permanently paralyzed from the hips down. Guzo was the best in Japan." I reminded him, "Now your the best. At 42, your career is set. Please..."

I felt my voice wobble, "Please keep her alive. Paralyzed... I don't care. I just want her alive." Denoro let out in a slightly surprised voice, "You love her..." I nodded my head then said, "Yeah, I think I do." Then I ended the call and laid on my bed staring at the ceiling. Delphie...

Surgeon Denoro's POV

The line went dead and I put it back on the hook. I stared at one of the assistants that helped me in surgery, the most likely next greatest surgeon, "That girl..." He let out, "What girl?" I sighed, "Honko... that girl... you know? The one we already almost lost on the operating table."

Honko let out, "Yeah, she's a CEO. She runs Hope Enterprise." I exclaimed, "Dammit!" Passing nurses glanced at me slightly unnerved. Honko said quietly, "What's wrong?" I let out, "One of the Ootori's like her!" Then I whispered to only him, "As in love her..."

Honko looked at me wide eyed, "How are we supposed to..." I stared into his eyes, "20% chance she dies and 30% chance of a perfect surgery. You have to help me though." Honko said, "Sir listen..." I shook my head no, "I'm sure you remember Guzo."

Honko said, "Of course, best surgeon in Japan. Well used to be." I said, "I did the same surgery with him. The man ended up paralyzed from the hips down. And this girl has a smaller tumor than he had. I wish I could remember the man's name... But it is possible. I'll probably be fired and lose my career if I fail this and she dies."

Honko's eyes widened, "Sir..." I said, "No. Help me, I need to find the case file it's almost exactly 20 years old probably. Gosh what was his name?! All the notes all the things that were done and Guzo said..."

-----

After reading over the surgery Guzo lead on Hiromo Satonishi I felt slightly better. I stood watching the nurses take the bandages off the girls head. I walked over gloves on my hands gently grabbing a scalpel. They put the mask on her and I waited for her heartbeat to become steady. Once she was out I gently walked near her head. I took a deep breath and moved my hand forward.
