Chapter 9

Officer Kyle Howard, 26, one of the promising graduates. Gives out a firm exterior that matches his personality. Dreams of being one of the best detective there is. Sounds a lot like me. This is why it startled everyone that finds out about him being in shock. However, he might be the only one who have seen Acid and survives. Whatever he says will be crucial to the investigation, and he could hand me the missing piece of the puzzle that has been stopping me from progressing in this investigation.

That morning, I paid my visit to Officer Kyle Howard. His room was filled with family and friends. As soon as he saw me, he asked his family members and friends to leave the room for a while to talk to me in private. It was as if he was already expecting me. "I'm sorry to barge in like this, I'm..." he then interrupts "Mr. Oliver Midnight, yes I knew you'll come by.". I looked at him with a smile, hoping he is in a good state of mind to talk. "Have you talk to the other officers?" I asked. "No, they said it'll be better if I talk to you straight away.". "Alright, first of all, tell me what happened.". He then starts his story. "It was late at night, me and Darren were patrolling the streets just like we were ask to. And then, we heard a squeaking sound, probably coming from some mice at the alley. I asked Darren whether we should notify other patrolling officers, but he told me it's probably nothing. He was going to go into the alley to check, but I didn't follow him as I thought I should at least notify the others in case something happened. So I ran back to our car to let the others know. And then, I heard a familiar voice, screaming, trembling in fear. I ran back to the alley, and I heard slicing noises. I took out my gun, for safety purposes. I was leaning to the wall at the entrance to the alley. Tried to take a peep but I couldn't see anything. So I ran towards the side of a dumpster and take cover there. I then had a pretty good view from there. And I saw, a man wearing a black coat, with a burlap mask. And down there, it was Darren with blood all over him. I.. I got mad. So I acted irrationally, I shouted at him "FREEZE!". And then, he.. he.. gave me a look. A cold, heartless look. The temperature went down fast, it became cold. I.. I ended up shivering in fright. He then said something with a deep distorted voice. He said "I'm not here for you. Go.". I don't know what to do. I was so scared I... I went beside the dumpster to hide. I was afraid. I cried while I heard him, raping Darren. I don't know what else to do, I just wanted it to end quickly.". I looked at him filled with curiosity and asked "So you didn't do anything?". He replied "I don't know what to do, he has this aura that just frightens people, cold down their spine. It was like he's the angel of death.". Kyle starts to sweat, presumably in fear. I decided not to ask anything else. "Thank you for your time, get well soon and we can work together to stop him for good.". He looked at me "No, I'm.. I'm retiring.. If it means that I have to face him again one day, then I quit. I just.. I can't..". "I understand, have a good day Officer Howard.".

I left the hospital with a thought. It's not about who Acid is. But what is this Acid. He did not even touch Officer Howard and he could make him so scared that he is quiting the police force. What in God's name is this Acid? Is he some demon that only wishes to terrorize the city. And not to forget, the dreams that I've been having. My mind's depiction of Acid is actually true. But how? How is this possible? The only thing I could think of doing is reaching out for as much help as I can. This is clearly something I can't handle on my own. As much as my ego is going against me asking for help, I think for once I should put the people's safety first instead of my ego. If I can't do this alone, surely 4 people including me with same mindset and determination can. I'll have to do whatever it takes, to bring an end to Acid.
