Miles, Gina and Bill were still huddled up behind the statues on the altar, watching as the vicious creatures fed on the human carcasses.
A vibration from his phone alerted him to a message. It was from Rebecca.
"I can't. The monster's already inside. Hiding with George under my bed - there's nowhere to go."
"The kids are okay," he whispered to Gina, smiling with joy. She exchanged his smile and sighed in relief. But what she also didn't notice was that she braced against one of the statues, accidentally pushing it forward. It toppled over and broke, causing all the Clawdens to look their way.
"Gina!" Miles hissed, shoving his phone into his pocket and taking out his gun.
"Sorry," she cowered.
"Uh...guys? We have a problem," Bill said, his voice trembling.
All of the Clawdens were moving towards them, growling with ferocity. Blood soaked the hairs on their body and dripped from their mouths and claws. Their dark eyes were like black holes, almost enough to draw you in with no chance of survival.
"Come on!" Miles shouted, running off to his left, towards a door that led from the altar into a back room. He pushed the door open and motioned for them to get inside. "Come on! Hurry! Hurry!"
The Clawdens were going crazy and advanced towards them. Gina had made it into the room, and just as Bill was about to jump in behind her, one of the monsters swiped at his back. He yelped, as the slash stung, and he leapt into the room. Miles fired a few shots, stopping the ones closest to the room, before quickly shutting the door; Gina helped to barricade it with a table, some chairs, and even a small bookshelf.
They backed away from the door as the monsters banged against the other side, the door budging with every slam.
Bill made a gasping sound as he stood up from the floor.
Gina observed the long claw marks across his back, and it brought back memories of the ones she saw outside the house; shivers ran down her spine. If that wasn't enough to prove that these monsters existed, at least she saw them for herself.
"That doesn't look good," she said, pointing to Bill's back. His flesh was ripped away with the portion of his shirt and suit jacket. Blood oozed, unceasing, from the deep wounds. "We have to get that patched up or else it'll get infected."
"There's a first aid kit over there," Bill said, weakly, as he pointed to a small cupboard that hung on the opposite side of the room.
"That can work...for now," Gina said, sprinting towards it. She sat him down on a table and quickly began to stitch up the wounds.
Miles took his phone out and replied to his daughter's message, and then paced the room, thinking of a solution to escape. A few minutes later, nothing came to mind. He scanned the room for anything that could help them fight off the monsters, aside from his gun. However, looking around proved useless, and he stood against the wall, next to a bookshelf.
