A male and a female nurse were walking one of the vacant corridors, towards the rooms they'd changed over into sleeping quarters. Molly wore green scrubs and David, red. They were in Intensive Care and Dermatology, respectively, and each took their job seriously.
Both had become accustomed to how busy it was, but after the Clawdens had ripped their town apart and tossed it into chaos, the workload was too much to bear. However, they persevered, trying to help those who were injured, family, friends, and strangers alike.
And it wasn't easy, oh, no. And they definitely couldn't save everyone they wanted to.
Molly and David walked slowly, the former's index finger tracing against the wall. The wall was dry and dust mlted drifted off as they went by.
"Do you think we'll ever make it out pf here?" Molly asked, breaking the silence. "Do you think anyone will come for us?"
David sighed. "It's been one/two days since we've been cut off from the rest of the world. If anyone was coming, they'd be here already and we'd be out of this fucking godforsaken town." He clenched his fists at his side.
"Someone will come," she reassured. "That policeman that came in with the lady--they couldn't have been alone all this time."
"Molly," he stopped walking and turned on his heels to face her, glaring intensely, "what makes you so sure that--even if there were a group--they would help us? Huh?"
"They want to get out of here as much as we do. That woman came all the way here to meet Bill and reunite with her kids." She curved around him and continued to the end of the hallway. "If she would do anything to get back to her children, what's to stop the entire group from getting out of here? And we could, too, with their help."
"And what about our families?" David asked, coming up beside her. "What, are we just gonna leave them here?"
"David, you and I both know that your mother is not going to make it with those bite marks on her stomach. Heck! The woman doesn't even have her left arm anymore!"
David growled loudly.
"Look, I know my family is gone, and I've come to accept that." She stopped in front of her room door and turned the knob. "You should, too...for your mother's sake."
She went into her room and left David in the hallway alone. He glared angrily at her as she shut her door, his hands balled into tight fists, and then stomped further down the corridor, passing his room.
"Accept it?" he scoffed. "Fine." David scurried towards the back of the hospital, where the entrance/exit was boarded and blocked with lots of wood and barricades made from hospital equipment. "Let's see if you'll accept this."
After looking around to make sure no one was there, one by one, he quickly but silently removed the obstacles, clearing a path to the back door of the hospital.
