Rusting copper double-doors in the ground, in the middle of the dark, wet forest, opened. The vines that ran across the door burst at the force of the push. The metal screeched loudly, echoing loudly in the night as Miles, Gina and Bill made their way through. They'd been in the tunnels for so long, trying to find their way out. It was because of Bill that they'd made a few wrong turns.

But now they were out and could make their way home as quickly as possible.

Miles pushed the door closed and stood on Gina's left, while Bill stood on her right.

"Which way do we go?" she asked, her eyes scanning the surroundings for anything uncommon. But everything was uncommon. Their family never went on camping trips, so being in the forest - especially in the dark - was strange.

"I think," Bill started to say, scratching the back of his neck, "it's that way back to town." He pointed to the left and let out a small chuckled when they quirked their eyebrows at him. "Look, I'm sorry I led us astray a few times It's been a while since I've been down in those tunnels, so things felt a bit foreign to me."

"It's alright," Gina said, not wanting him to feel bad. But she did pity his sense of direction now.

A chilling breeze filled the air and caused the lone female of the group to shiver. Miles noticed this and took off his suit-jacket. He gently covered his wife's shoulder with it and smiled when she released a breath of satisfaction. She then pushed herself into his body to feel some of his warmth, and because she just wanted to be closer to him at the moment. Miles could see the soft smile on her face as she looked up at him. They just needed to make it out of the forest and back home to their children, to ensure their safety. And then they were going to evade this horrid town, as far away as possible from these infernal beasts.

The moon shone brightly in the sky, although some of the trees' branches blocked out most of its light, casting creepy-looking shadows on the ground they stood. The shadows caused shivers to roll down Bill's spine as he thought they were the monsters' shadows. He sighed and laughed at his absurd behaviour.

They all quickly started up the path Bill had pointed out, staying observant of their surroundings. The rain stopped a while now, so it was a bit wet. Their shoes, quite already soiled from trekking in the dark tunnels and stumbling upon unexpected rocks, sloshed in the puddles of water on the forest floor. Drops of water fell from the branches of trees overhead. They continued along the path, still hoping Bill was right about it leading back to the town. Hopefully it wasn't completely overrun by the vicious monsters, and hopefully, they never run into one or a group of them, for that matter. This was a completely dire situation, and getting back to the town without any complications, getting back to their children before it's too late, was the only thing on the concerned parents' minds.
