Its my party and..

It's October 19th. I finally am 20 years old, no longer a teen, I guess I want to say that I'm officially an adult now, which is debatable. I still live under my mother's roof, I go to the local community college, and I love to read on my free time. Oh, and take naps. Let me give you a run down of my name. Allura Luz Suriel.

Allura: enticing
Luz: light

No need of a run down on my last name since, well, it's just my last name. But my name literally means enticing light, which if I'm being honest really isn't me. I am far from 'enticing' and I don't know why 'light' would apply to me except the fact that my mom reminds me that I am the light of her life, but to be fair I think majority of mothers out there could also say the same about their children.

Nevertheless, welcome to my journey of life and all the ups and downs I am not prepared for...

I groan as I get out of bed, it's 6:30 a.m. and I'm getting ready for English. I do the usual, go pee, wash hands, brush teeth then wash my face, and zombie walk back to my room which makes me even sleepier. My walls are dark grey, I have white carpet and a grey rug, a fuzzy chair, a desk, and my most prized possession (other than my phone and iPod) my bookshelf with the 80 or so books that I own. My tv is hanging on my wall facing my bed and I also have a DVD and a VCR (which doesn't work but I still kept) on top of my dresser.

Maybe painting my walls yellow or something could help wake me up but just moving stuff around and actually painting all four walls puts me off on the idea.

Grabbing my clothes out of my dresser, I quickly shimmy into my leggings and throw on my Harvard sweater. I never even applied to Harvard, but when I went to visit Boston, I bought the sweater just so that I could say I went to Harvard. I turn the light off in my room and make my way downstairs to the kitchen. My mom is in there making her breakfast since she leaves around the same time I do.

Walking into the kitchen, I grab a banana from the bowl of fruit, and sit listening to my mom on her phone.

"No, no, Andrew this isn't a good time. I told you tonight I'm taking Allura to eat and go to the movies."

Andrew is my mom's boyfriend, he's okay but sometimes I get bad vibes from him, I can't quite put my finger on it but I don't tell her anything. She's happy (sometimes) and I don't want to ruin our relationship even more over some guy. They've only been dating for 6 months, he's been over on the weekends. When he's over I try to stay in my room the whole time. But whenever they go out sometimes my mom will make me go with them so that we can all "get to know each other". I use my regular excuse about needing to finish homework but either way I'm dragged along on their little dates.

"Andrew, I'm trying to get ready to leave for work. We can talk later, and I'll text you once I get to work. Okay. Fine. Bye."

My mom and I are going to eat at a restaurant in downtown LA, then I chose to go to the movies because it's one of those special events where they run an old movie and re release it, so she got me tickets to see Pretty in Pink, one of my all time favorite movie. I have it on DVD but seeing it on the big screen is a whole other experience.

"Happy Birthday little lady!!!" My mom comes over and gives me a hug, "Allura you aren't going to eat anything else? A banana won't fill you up, and you don't get home until after 12. Make some oatmeal or a bagel." I groan and shrug my shoulders, " I guess I'll stop by the store on campus and get a bread or something before class starts." She nods her head and makes her way out of the kitchen, " Bye lady! I'll see you later for dinner!!" I grab my phone and order an uber to get me to school. I do have a drivers license, I just don't have a car yet. But uber had been my trusty go to when I couldn't get a ride with my bffl Ray (short for Raven) but she hasn't gone to school this whole week and my other bffl Nora doesn't have a car either but she doesn't go to school today, so I'm by myself stuck with uber.
