He stood staring at the front door. His hearts pounding with a mixture of excitement and fear. He hadn't seen Cora for 2 years, yet to him it seemed like an eternity. He didn't know what to say to her or what to do when he saw her. Maybe he wasn't ready. "Knock. Just knock." he thought to himself. Moments later he saw Clara's hand knocking on the door.

Within seconds Lucy was at the door. She was pale and tried. "Doctor," her eyes scanned over Clara and a weak smile came to her face, "please come inside." The house was cold. The only noise that was heard throughout it was the clock chiming, alerting that 11 had changed to 12. His eyes looked over everything. The house looked the same but was different at the same time.

"This is Clara." He smiled as he introduced his friend to Lucy. He knew that's all he was obligated to do. He didn't feel up to speaking so he just left a faint smile on his face as he sat down on the couch. He didn't want to think about anything but Cora. He thought about how cold she must be since its winter, he wondered if she was happy, he even thought about if he loved her; if she loved him.

He stood up excusing himself from their conversation. Slowly he made his way up the stairs trying to prepare himself for what he was going to see. He didn't know what it was going to be like for him. He wasn't ready but he needed this, they both did. His hand touched the cold doorknob pushing open the door his breath hitched in his throat.

He sat down at her desk. Right in front of him was the journal he had given her a very long time ago. Tears started streaming down from his eyes. There was a cup on her desk, a blue cup with stars on it. He got her that cup for her 13th birthday. "Now you can have stars in your coffee." He smiled remembering the happy memory. Grasping the journal in his hands he walked to the window.

The Doctor traced the last page of the journal with his fingers. He cherished every letter that she had written but the words sent terror trough out him. TRENZALORE. He had promised to come back. He never did, he lied to her. He broke his promise. He waited to long, he wasted time. He was living his life while she was shut up the prison of her mind just like her father was.

"When?" That was the only word he could get out, and it came out shaking,

"Last year, she died last year Doctor." he could tell Lucy's voice was filled with sadness," You missed her funeral." Lucy was trying to stay strong the best she could but her act was failing. "She thought she saw you. She ran across the street, she didn't see the car I guess." He saw a tear run down her face. He held onto the journal even tighter than before. He wasn't ready for this. He wasn't ready to let her go. "We buried her with the key around her neck," the Doctor almost smiled, and a copy of Peter Pan in her hand." His hearts couldn't take anymore.

Clara said how sorry she was for Lucy's loss but she didn't feel the sadness they both felt. He never got a chance to introduce his newest lostgirl to his Wendy. He was in pain. He just sat there, in her room holding her journal in his hands. He thought long and hard about whether or not to open it up and read any more than the last page. After all that's what it was for, but he was afraid of what he would read. He was afraid Cora thought of him.

He loved her more than words could describe and now he will never get to tell her. When she was little he cared for her because he owed her father but as she grew he fell in love with her. The first time she walked into the TARDIS was when he realized it. His salty Time lord tears once again fell from his old eyes. He laughed, she loved his old eyes. She loved all of their wisdom and their knowledge. All of it and none of it could save her.

He looked around her room. Her window was covered in frost which was typical for December, books were scattered throughout the room, her pictures of her friends were facing down so that you couldn't see them, and her bed had TARDIS blue sheets that looked freshly made. The original Peter Pan that he once read to her was sitting next to her bed where it always was. He said goodbye to her room one last time before closing the door behind him.

The Doctor would never go back to that house. He left something in that room for Coraline though. He left her his journal;. His journal that he had been keeping while he was away from her. He hid it in a place where only he and Cora knew of. A place where they would store things a long time ago.

As for her journal, it remains shut and locked. It shall never be opened by the Doctor's hands. He keeps it with him always though. In his left pocket along with the Peter Pan book, he will read that book to many children in a town called 'Christmas' just for Cora.

He will never forget Coraline Jane Saxon. He loved her more than anyone, more than Rose, more than Sara Jane, even more than River. She was his forever taken to early. But what hurt him the most is that he was coming to get her. He was the last thing she saw before she closed her eyes forever. Now when he closes his he sees her's smiling up at his before they close. Forevermore.
