Tess's POV:
I glanced up, away from my food, and saw Stephen staring at me, that little smile on his face again. I shook my head and smiled back. “What are you staring at?” I asked.
He shrugged, picking up his drink. “A beautiful girl.”
I scoffed. “Well, tell her you're on a date and to stop distracting you.”
He rolled his eyes with a laugh as he took a sip of his water. Then he reached over the table and took my hand in his. I bit my lip to fight an overwhelmingly giddy grin from forming on my face. God, I was so happy. The entire hour that we'd been in this tiny restaurant, I've felt extremely lucky to have gotten back to good things with Stephen. A few days after the blowup with Connor, Stephen and I had gotten back on track and were finally enjoying the time we spent together.
I smiled and squeezed his hand.
“Oh! You never took your turn,” I reminded him.
“Sorry, I got distracted.” He winked at me. I stifled a laugh and rolled my eyes. “Okay,” he continued. “Uh...okay, Mayday Parade.”
“Oh, easy,” I answered. “Stay. Oh wait, no. Three Cheers For Five Years. No, no, no, it's Miserable at Best. Ugh, I don't know.”
Stpehen chuckled. “Three seconds, babe.”
I struggled to choose a favorite song. “Ahh!! Okay, Stay. I love the upbeat lyric style of the chorus against the slower music.”
“Excellent choice,” he agreed with a nod.
For the last few minutes, we were playing a game where one of us would name a band or singer, and the other had about ten seconds to pick their favorite song by that artist. It was surprisingly hard to pick one in just ten seconds, and soon we were laughing our asses off at our frantic attempts to choose.
“All Time Low,” I told him.
“Oh my god,” he laughed. “Dear Maria, no contest.”
I sighed, annoyed that he was so much better at this than I was. “Damn you.”
He shrugged arrogantly and smirked at me. I abruptly wanted to kiss him. The cock of one side of his lips plus the devilish look in his eyes was a lot to take in. I wasn't sure why I was so attracted to him lately. Maybe it was my period.
“Stop biting that lip,” he mumbled, staring at me.
I raised my eyebrows, unaware that I'd even been doing that, but sure enough, my bottom lip was between my teeth.
“It turns me on,” he admitted in a low voice.
I blushed furiously, but felt a small wave of heat rush through me.
