Tessa's POV:
The drive to the Gomez's house was nice. Brian wouldn't shut up through the entire drive, but his constant chatter kept me entertained. He asked me plenty of questions about myself, too, at which Jess scolded.
"I hope you realize she's going to be asked the exact same questions by everyone else at the house," she said. "Don't make her answer them twice."
I smiled. "Oh, I don't mind."
"I do," Jess laughed. "Brian talks too much, anyway."
I giggled at Brian's insulted face. "I'm just trying to keep this drive from being awkwardly quiet," he said grumpily.
"It's fine," I assured him. "I'm used to the quiet."
"Why's that?" he inquired.
"Well," I said. "I'm an only child, so it's just me and my mom at my house. And she works a lot, so..." I trailed off with a shrug.
"I'm sorry," Jess frowned sympathetically at me. "Well, we're almost there. John, Josh, and Stephen are home. Ms. Gomez went grocery shopping about an hour before we left, so she should be home by now."
I began bouncing my leg nervously, fiddling with the headphones still around my neck.
"Hey, don't be nervous," Jess told me. "They're all very excited to meet you."
"Some more than others," Brian added from the backseat.
"Brian." Jess's tone made him shut up immediately. I looked at her questioningly. She just smiled.
'Okay, now I really am nervous,' I thought. What did Brian mean by that? Did someone not want to meet me? Or did someone really want to meet me? Of course, my self-conscious nature made me think the former.
When we pulled into the driveway of the quaint little house, I took a deep breath. Opening the passenger door of the dark blue jeep, I took in all my surroundings. It looked like a town built in a desert, honestly. There were mountains in the distance. But there was a green lawn surrounding the houses. It was extremely bright and hot. But, unlike Florida, the air was very dry, rather than the humidity I was used to back home. The house was larger than mine. Two story, the house was painted a creamy off-white and the roof was a dark brick red. The front door and garage door were the same color. I immediately fell in love with it, before I even went inside.
"You ready for this?" Jess asked me, handing me my guitar case.
"As ready as I'll ever be," I answered, throwing my backpack on and putting my phone in my back pocket. I made a mental reminder to take a picture of the house later.
We walked up the front steps leading up to the porch, where Jess opened the door and (thankfully) went in first. I followed her in slowly, biting my lip nervously. Jess led me into the front sitting room, which contained a small couch, some side tables, and a large bookshelf. She set my stuff down on the floor in front of the couch. I did the same, as did Brian as he followed us in.
"We'll take your stuff upstairs in a little bit," Jess told me. "Let's find everyone else."
"SHE'S HEEEE-EERE!!!" Brian yelled in the direction of the kitchen, where I saw a staircase begin. Suddenly, the house began to shake as three sets of footsteps thundered down the stairs. Shouts of indecipherable words floated down.
"That was unnecessary," Jess shook her head. She guided me out to the living room. The footsteps traveled through the kitchen and the three boys appeared.
