"I'll be fine. It's just a hero's day at work, right?"
Staten Island Ferry, New York, 2016-
"Your bag?" Charles exclaimed, the bag being slung over his back. "Why do we need it?" He swung it over so it hung on one shoulder instead of two.
"Charlie," Alison gestured to the ferry that was being attacked by some criminals and a flying vulture. "If I don't get out there, people could die!"
Charles looked at her. "But you could die! And even if I give you the suit, you'd have to run on water to get there?"
Alison glanced over at Charles, trying to place a brave and confident look on her face. "Charles, I have to try. If people-"
"You have to travel at least 30 meters per second to do that Ali." Charles interrupted, standing beside Alison's chair.
"Yeah yeah, well, I'm going to have to run that fast someday." The banter was dragging on longer than Alison would of liked, and it was clearly displayed through her antsy position in her chair.
"It took the Flash two seasons to even run on water. Two! You've barely become a superhero and you think you can do this?" Charles protested, throwing his hand out at the water. "I can't lose you Ali! You're the last real family I've got."
Alison stood up from her chair, snatching the bag quickly with her super speed, then changing into her suit hidden in the backpack, in a matter on milliseconds. "Yeah well, screw the Flash. I've always thought that skimpy man in the Scarlet suit was dumb anyways."
Pulling her visor-like mask onto her face, Alison pulled her hair back into a ponytail. She had decided to ditch the blue extensions in her hair, and go with a more basic look.
"Ali-" Charles hoarsely whispered, seeing Alison suited up in all her glory. "Please, be safe. With your back and everything-" He paused, slightly scared for his sister.
Alison glanced down at her younger brother. "My back is totally fine." She reassured. "And hey, if a kid named Dash who's years younger can do it in the first movie of Incredibles, can't I?" She tried to keep her brother's hopes up, wishing herself that nothing would go wrong.
"Just be safe." Charles pleaded, holding onto his sister's sleeve one final time. "And please, please, please, don't drown on the way there. I don't want to go explain to Jackie why my sister is down at the bottom of the New York Harbor."
Alison gave Charles a small wink. "Don't worry, I'll be back in a flash." She rustled his hair, and quickly sped off into the distance.
Charles looked at her with exasperation, throwing his hands up at the girl, who was speeding away. "How am I supposed to explain an empty wheelchair? Or do anything with an empty wheelchair?" He called out into the air, slowly realizing Alison probably couldn't hear him from how far away she was. "Ugh!" Charles let out an exasperated sigh, and sat down in the wheelchair, watching his sister go play hero.
