Pidge doesn't scare much. Her scientific curiosity drives her to do things and move forward. Her intelligence is what got them all to space in the first place. Intellect and her cunning ways is what she was good at and what's brought her so far. So staring at giant pile of glowing green vines, she understood.
You could say Pidge has problems with losing people. When she was little one of her close friends, her brother and father were taken from her. Fighting this war could bring her more tragedy or more light. All Pidge knew was she couldn't lose anyone else. She found a family in the friends she escaped with. She couldn't bare to lose her second family when she didn't know what happened to the first.
Yet Pidge could feel it from staring at the glowing vines. She felt assured and confident. This feeling she had made it feel possible to find her missing family and bring them together. It felt possible to keep her new one together. Pidge now knew she didn't have to worry now because she knows they'll all be there for each other.
So Pidge climbed the vines and found a gap. She could see the green lion and she smiled. She jumped, becoming the green lion's pilot.
