Teamwork Not Working Out

Lance groaned in exhaustion as he collapsed on the couch in the lounge. Being new to a group that's known each other since childhood wasn't easy. They didn't understand his movements, how he fought and in turn he didn't know how they moved and how they fought. It was the world's worst guessing game to Lance as several times they all stumbled into each other while practicing. See Allura had showed them the training room and wanted them all to have better team work. Voltron can be only formed through team work and with Lance added to the mix everything was turned into a mess.

There had to be a better way for Lance and the team to work together better. The thing is Lance wasn't used to this whole team thing. Before he met Allura he was mostly on his own. He taught himself how to shoot so well and when he met Allura he did most the fighting when they got into those kind of situations. Fighting with others and relying on them just wasn't something he thought he'd have to do. Sure he was a supportive and kind person, that doesn't erase years of having no one to depend on. He needed help.

"Where's Lance? We need to talk." Allura asked as she walked into the lounge. Only the Team V members were in there, resting.

"Haven't seen him." Pidge shrugged as she was coding something on her computer.

"Last time I saw him was when we were in the training room." Hunk responded busy with fixing a gadget that broke sometime ago.

"I thought he went to the kitchen to get something to drink when I passed him in the hall earlier." Keith shrugged as he sharpened a strange knife.

"Sorry Allura we don't know where he is." Shiro sighed.

Allura's face contorted to anger as she stared at the people before her. These were the new pilots of her father's creations? "This is why you all won't be able to form Voltron!" She yelled at them. "In the past the pilots were called paladins. They all looked out for each other! They were such close friends! And here you are! You all showing no care towards your new teammate! Sure Lance needs to make some adjustments too, but all of you have to learn why you're so distant and find a common ground or we'll never defeat Zarkon." Still mad, Allura stomped away to go find out where her brother went. Hopefully he's not doing anything stupid.

"Allura's right, what we're doing. This isn't like us." Shiro sighed.

"Maybe because... he's like our Lance." Pidge said, almost too quietly.

"If he had grown up... maybe that's what he'd look like." Hunk said solemnly.

Keith stared at the ground. The guilt was still gnawing at him from that day. The day that it all changed. Suddenly he looked up with a determined look. "We can't let what happened to our Lance happen again!" Keith said. "We all need to get to know each other better now."

"We don't know him and he doesn't know us." Shiro said. "Let's change that so we all know each other."

Nods of approval went around the room. They were going to be better now, they know it. They will form Voltron.

Lance sighed as he walked around a space mall. He took the ship he used to get to Earth to go there. He walked around to calm himself down. Seeing people get along okay made him happy. He walked all around when a man tapped his shoulder. When he turned around he saw another Altean man. He had blue markings except with a minty green tint to them. He had orange hair and a fabulous orange mustache. "Excuse my boy, but you're Altean aren't you? Your markings..."

"I'm half Altean, half human." Lance shrugged. Looking at the man Lance came to a conclusion. "You're Coran aren't you? I'm Lance."

"Yes, you've heard of me?"

"From Allura, yes." Lance nodded.

"The princess is alive?" Coran asked with wide eyes.

"Yeah... she took me in as her younger brother." Lance confirmed. "Can we talk? You were her advisor."

"Of course my boy!" Together they went and sat down in a food court to talk. "So I'm guessing somethings troubling you?"

"Yeah see Team V and I found the lions. Now I know we have to work as a team and all, but being alone most of my life I'm not really a team player." Lance speculated.

"Well Lance in my experience not everything comes easy. Unless you're extremely lucky that is! But some things takes time." Coran twirled his mustache between his fingers than a thought came to him. "You know the lions themselves are sentient beings."

"Of course, Allura told me that." Lance nodded.

"Well they work just as well together when apart as they do when they become Voltron." Coran smiled. "Until the time comes when you're all ready, you all will form Voltron."

"Thank you so much Coran!" Lance smiled brightly. He went to leave, but paused and looked back at the Altean man. "Why not come back with me and see Allura again?"

"I'm afraid not my boy." Coran shook his head. "There are people who count on me." Coran thought something and handed something to Lance. "That is a communicator. Give that to the Princess. If she needs me she can contact me. The same goes to you too."

"Bye Coran and thank you." Lance smiled shyly. "Maybe I'll come back again sometime and we might see each other."

"Maybe... and thank you Lance."

"For what?"

"Letting me know that my niece is safe." He smiled at Lance with happiness.

"You're welcome." Lance left. He went and flew back to the Castle, careful to avoid the Galra Cruisers and fighters.

Upon getting out of the ship he was tackled into a hug. His vision was filled with white hair and he smiled softly. "I was so worried!" Allura cried. She released Lance and looked at him. "Now what in the universe possessed to just up and leave like that!?" She scolded, hitting his shoulder.

"Ow! Sorry Allura! I just needed some time." Lance rubbed the shoulder Allura hit to ease the pain. "I know I worried you, I'm sorry, but I met someone."

"A girl? A boy?" Allura's eye lit up.

"No... I met Coran. He's just like you described him as." Lance smiled. "He gave me this communicator so if we needed him we could contact him." Lance handed her the device. "He also gave me some good advice."

"That's great Lance. Now go rest. I'll go get for dinner later." Allura shooed him off.

Lance went to go rest in his assigned room. It was really bare, but he'd fix that later. Right now he really did need to rest. Adding a personal touch to his new room would have to come later. For now he let sleep consume him.

Meanwhile back in the hangar, Allura clutched the device in her. She gave a soft sigh before speaking. "Coran?"

"Yes Princess?" Coran's familiar voice rang in her ears as his voice spoke back. For the first time since waking up from cyro-sleep, Allura cried.
