"All alone it was always there for me. And even on my own, it was always standing next to me."

Gaia Theoroi pretended to be okay. But she wasn't.
She thought her problems would fade away. But they never did.
Instead, they started increasing. Day by day. She knew she couldn't ignore them. So she did what she thought was best. She started facing them. But facing one's problems was never easy. Sure for a six-year-old losing his or her pencil might seem like a big problem at that time but as we grow, our problems grow as well. And losing that pencil may seem silly now. So, facing them would be a nice idea. But it was always easier said than done.
The same went for Gaia. But now her problems were much more severe than a six years old's.
At the age of seventeen, she went through a lot more than a person of thirty years old ever will.
Each of her problems was slowly eating her up. One at a time. She was damaged. Destroyed. To her, she couldn't be saved. All she wanted was to set herself free. From this world, from her problems. She cursed anyone who thought she was running away from her problems. No, she wasn't. But she was done chasing them away. She was tired.
Since she couldn't do anything about it, she decided to stop. Stop them for once and for all. There was no one she could confide in about her problems. The journal that she used to keep, provided her no comfort. Not anymore.
Her parents thought sending her to therapy might help. And they did send her. But she refused to utter a single word. Because she knew everything would be reported back to her parents.
And that would destroy her family. So, she kept her mouth shut. She tried to hurt herself repeatedly. At first, she found some comfort in the pain. But soon, even her pain went numb. Her scars were covered with makeup. They worked well. So well that her parents thought that she was recovering with happy smiles plastered on her face. What they didn't realize that she was far from recovering. That it was all just for show. They didn't realize the depth of her problems. How would they? They didn't know a single problem of hers. She was good at hiding. Excellent even.
No one could see through her facade. She was so broken that picking up her tiny pieces might take an eternity. She was beyond repair. So she decided to end it for good. And that's why she was standing near the cliff staring at the raging waves of the sea down below her. As if the waves were trying to scare her away. Nothing scared her anymore. Not even death. She was ready to embrace it. Because she had nothing to lose. Standing there she reminisced all her problems. It was as if she was having a flashback of her life. And she didn't have a single memory that she was fond of. A memory that made her laugh and cry at the same time. Her eyes were already puffy from her previous breakdowns. Her eyes had become red. But she didn't care a bit.
The energy was drained from her body. She felt hollow. Breathing without a soul. Life had taken away so much from her that during these last moments of her life she felt barren, empty. Not even a single soul was with her. For her, this was the best decision. And she was hell-bent on executing it.
Taking a deep breath she starts walking towards the end of the cliff. A single jump and everything would end. And she did exactly that. On reaching the end of the cliff she thought, 'this is it.'
Closing her eyes she prepared herself and jumped. But the fall never came. Why? Because there, pulling her hand and preventing her from the fall stood a boy who was staring at her with wide eyes.
And that was when hope peered out of the clouds for Gaia even though she wasn't aware of it. Yet.
