Virgil walked into the gym for his mandatory PE. It was his least favorite class. He had little athletic prowess, almost no knowledge of sports, and what little sports he knew how to play, he disliked.

Especially dodgeball. He didn't know how to throw the ball effectively, his dodging skills were subpar, and he had no chance of catching the balls.

So when his gym coach announced they were going to be playing dodgeball with single elimination, Virgil immediately accepted an hour of shame and defeat. Not that he wasn't used to it.

They lined the balls in the middle and split into teams, Virgil being picked last naturally. The coach blew his whistle and everyone surged forward to grab a ball. Everyone that is, except Virgil.

He slunk back to a secluded corner where he tried his very best to blend into the shadows. Surprisingly, it worked. No one saw him, or if they did, they deigned him too pathetic of a target to try for.

He watched his fellow classmates drop like flies as they were hit until there was one person left on each team. Virgil, and Mitchell, the most popular guy in school, and the best at anything sports related.

With a smile of triumph, he boasted about winning, having not seen Virgil yet.

"Ha! We won! Told you guys I'm good at this-"

"What about Virgil?" Virgil's friend, Patton, innocently asked, having noticed him hiding. Instantly, Mitchell focused on Virgil, suddenly spotting him amongst the shadows. He scoffed.

"Psh, easy," he said with a wicked gleam in his eyes. Virgil turned to look at his team who were shaking their heads, clearly thinking that Virgil would be dominated.

They're probably right, Virgil thought. There's no way I can beat Mitchell...

But he was forced to step out of the shadows and timidly picked up a ball, his figure hunched. Mitchell just laughed. In one fluid motion, Mitchell launched a bright green directly towards Virgil.

In a panic, he dropped his own ball, and threw up his hands to protect himself. He saw the ball hurtling towards him, closer.... and closer..... and closer, Virgil closed his eyes waiting for the impact.... it never came.

He heard a collective gasp from around him and a few screams. Gingerly opening his eyes, Virgil couldn't believe what he saw.

Directly in front him, mere inches from his face, was the ball, hovering mid-air, slowly rotating on the spot. He dropped his hands, and with it, the ball fell too. Virgil raised his hands, the ball rose. Virgil dropped his hands, the ball fell. This confirmed his suspicions, though they were far fetched: Virgil was able to control the ball with his mind.

The rest of the class watched with their jaws dropped in awe. With a devious smirk, Virgil pushed his hands forward and the ball flew forward, directly into Mitchell's face. Flabbergasted, Mitchell sputters and rubbed his cheek where the ball meant for Virgil had hit him instead.
