•Topaz's POV•
A few days later, we are now in southern Illinois at a little farm house. It was really cute actually.
I watched addy and Mack horseplay. He threw her over his shoulder, making her laugh uncontrollably.
I got up and went inside the small house. I saw Cassandra passed out on the couch. Murphy and doc playing poker for pills. Warren and Garnett listening to Citizen Z on the radio and 10k on the recliner reading a news paper.
I walked behind the recliner and leaded to where my head was next to 10k's.
"Whatcha Readin?" I asked.
"Some old news paper." He sighed. "Better than nothing." He looked up at me.
I didn't realize how close we were until he looked at me. Our faces inches apart and our lips an inch a part.
He looked down at my lips and back to my eyes. I did the same with him.
He has those dark emerald green eyes that were cold and beautiful.
My breathing increased as I felt his breath hit my face. "I'm going get some coffee." I said quietly and walked off.
"Friends, I'm talking about mean weather coming in fast." Citizen Z said I've the radio.
"Some reports of tornados. Find shelter and take cover."
"I've never been in a tornado." I said as I poured some coffee and then put sugar.
"It's dangerous out there. More so than usual." Citizen Z added.
"You don't want to be in one." Warren said as she took a sip out of her coffee.
"Now back to the soothing sounds of the apocalypse."
Some music started to play.
"You know after he was so wrong about that chopper, weatherman's pretty good job for that geek." Murphy said.
We laughed at him then addy and Mack came in.
"You're up." Addy said.
"All good?" Garnett asked.
"Peaceful night." Addy smiled.
"Your stalker said there's a storm front coming in." Warren added. I chuckled when she said "stalker".
"How is it out there?" She asked.
"Cloudy with a chance of zombies." Addy shrugged.
"Okay, you two get some rest." Garnett said and they agreed.
"You got it." Mack smiled.
Warren, Garnett and I walked outside.
"How are you? Topaz." Warren asked.
"I could be better." I shrugged then looked at the cloudy sky.
"You never really told me about you life before this happened."
"There's not much really." I sighed.
"I'm sure that's not true." She put her hand on my back. "Why don't you tell us?"
I nodded. "I was fifteen when this started. I got home from school and my dad was freaking out, gathering his guns, ammo and knives."
"They were all laid on the table. I asked my mom what was going on and she told me that a virus was making people go crazy and that we need to stay inside where it's safe."
"And that meant no more going out with my friends, or going to school. So we stayed in my apartment for a while. At night, I would sometimes hear screams and growling."
"It scared me to death but my brother helped me get through it. He would tell me, "Don't be scared Tope, they can't get you without going through me." He was my protection."
"But my moms sickness became worse and I was home alone, while my father and brother went out to get more food."
"I was sitting by my window in my room, singing a song my mom use to sing for me all the time, until I heard my mom coughing."
"I ran to her and she was worse. She told me, "I'm coming to an end mi amor (my love), you have to end me so I won't hurt you." I was so scared."
"I knew what she meant, so I grabbed a knife. Then looked her into the eyes and said, "I love you ma." And What she told me next, is what sticks with me through out this journey."
"What did she say?" Garnett asked.
"She said, "stay strong mi amor, your story isn't over yet." Then with that, I killed my mother before she turned."
"When my father got back, I told him what happened. He was upset at first but then he was understanding."
"We wrapped my mother's body in some sheets and just left her. She wanted to stay home when she died so, my father, my brother and I left and found a camp with some more people."
"They trained me to fight and how to survive for myself. I was one of the best in the camp, but my brother was top best."
"One night, a horde of zombies invaded the camp and my father told me to climb in the tree at the lake. The He and my bother would come get me, but they never came."
"I got tired of waiting and survived for myself for three years."
"Wow." Addy sighed.
I turned around and everyone was outside listening to my story. I didn't realize they were listening.
"You are very strong." Warren gave me a small smile.
I walked inside the house and laid down on the couch were Cassandra was sleeping. I wrapped up in the blanket, and fell asleep.
I don't know how long I was asleep but I felt someone tug on the blanket lightly.
I opened my eyes to see 10k, covering me up with the blanket that fell off of me.
"Sorry, your blanket fell." He said quietly.
I gave him a small smile and closed my eyes.
"If we breed those two, it would be so over for the zombies." Murphy chuckled.
My eyes shot open and I looked at 10k. His eyes where wide open and he looked very uncomfortable.
"Shut up, Murphy!" I yelled.
Him and doc laughed, then continued playing cards.
I sighed and tried to fall back asleep but I couldn't.
I opened my eyes and 10k was reading some book. "Whatcha reading this time?" I asked.
"I don't know, some book called 'hatchet'."
"Oh cool." Chuckled then let out a sigh.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Bored." I then jumped to the sound of thunder.
Then the electricity we had went out.
"10k?" I asked in a worried tone.
"It's just the weather don't worry." He said calmly and I nodded.
Then we heard gun shots. Warren and Garnett came running in the house.
"Puppies and kittens! Time to go!" She yelled.
"Everybody out the back!"
As I put my boots on, 10k grabbed my stuff and waited for me.
"Okay, lets go." I said and grabbed my jacket.
We ran out the back, and into the truck.
