Chapter 6: Findings
As the two entered the banquet, Alice looked around nervously. She stared at Griffin who strode through the crowd as if he owned the place.
Alice followed along at his side.
"Hello. Allister,"Griffin smiled and waved his hand at a man a few tables away from the two.
Allister lifted a hand that currently had champagne in it. The two walked over to Allister at the table.
"Griffin. Long time no see, you look exactly like I remember you," Allister said.
Griffin grinned,"You look a little more aged then I remember, but fine wine is aged. Am I right?"
Allister chuckled and then his eyes settled on Alice.
"Now who is this lovely girl on your arm," Allister asked.
Alice blushed but didn't speak. Griffin had told her to basically be his arm candy. Quite and pretty.
"This is Alice," Griffin said.
Alice nodded giving Allister her best smile.
"Well Alice, have a toast with me,"Allister said this while giving her a glass.
Alice took it but did not drink.
Allister raised his glass slightly,"To love and to friends."
Smiling Alice raised her glass. Griffin didn't have one in his hand.
Allister downed his while Alice cautiously held hers. She didn't know Allister. She barely knew Griffin.
There was no way Alice was taking a sip of a drink a stranger gave her. Allister looked at Alice's untouched drink.
"Oh Griffin," Allister said, "You have a smart one there."
Griffin smirked. So Alice wasn't dumb enough to drink the champagne. Griffin didn't know what the reason was for her not drinking, just that it was a very good choice.
It was almost an unsaid thing in his line of work. You didn't take food or drinks from anyone you didn't know. Everyone was an enemy until they proved to be a friend.
She could have believed it was roofied or she just didn't like champagne. Maybe she didn't want her guard down.
Any of the reasons were valid. Griffin mentally took note of this. She'd past his second test.
If she was going to be in his world she had to know who to trust. Of course Allister was very trustworthy.
Griffin took the glass from Alice and drank it. Griffin noticed Alice slightly annoyed look. She quickly masked it with a fake smile.
Allister noticed this too. He laughed then nudged Griffin,"I really like her."
Alice knew how to hide her true emotions. She'd been doing even before her shitty Diner job.The two walked around the fancy hall, greeting people and smiling. Griffin and Alice were currently standing near a fancy fountain.
"Wait here a moment. I'll be right back," Griffin said quietly to Alice.
He pulled his arm from her grasp and walked across the hall and into a door that was being held open by a very large and very scary man.
Alice waited for a while but got bored quickly.
She walked slowly towards the desert table and pick up some pink and blue desert. It was very fancy.
Alice took a bite of it. The moment it touched her tongue she realized she had made a mistake. It was awful.
