Monday mornings were hard enough without my fear of seeing Max making it harder (Oh, and the fact that I had a bio test today that I didn't study for.) I mean, ever since he told me about his girlfriend I've just been upset, and over what? Some stupid crush of mine having a girlfriend? If that's really the reason, and it most probably is, then I have officially become pathetic. I mean I barely knew the guy. Talk about needing to get a grip.

"You okay Rainie?" Luke asked as he grabbed the cereal box from the cabinet. "You look a little upset!"

I nodded in an attempt to clear my head "Yeah just stressing over bio." and seeing Max.

"Typical" Luke said as he poured milk over his cereal and stuffed a spoonful of the chocolatey krispies into his mouth. "Forever the perfectionist"

"You speak as if that's a bad thing!" I joke, a smile spreading across my face.

Luke shrugged as he finished up his food, damn that boy ate fast, and grabbed his stuff from the floor beside him. "We're leaving early today, Max needs a lift."

I nodded, trying to hide the fact that I had suddenly become very aware of the fact that I was wearing jeans and a T-shirt. Not exactly what one would consider sexy. Shaking my head, I tried to Ignore the butterflies that had formed in my stomach and quickly got my stuff together. Backpack, food (always an essential), and mascara. If I was going to spend the fifteen minute drive to school in the same car as Max I had to at least try and make myself look presentable.

"What took you so long?" Luke asked when I finally ran out of the house after saying a quick goodbye to my mother.

Rolling my eyes I pulled down the overhead mirror as Luke started his way towards Max's house. I waited till we reached a smooth part of the street and the opened the tube of black mascara. I gave each eye a couple swipes before feeling satisfied enough to close the tube and drop it in my bag.

"I'll never understand girls" Luke groaned as he turned into Max's driveway and honked a couple times. "What makes you think that some goop on your eyes is what's going to make the difference on how you look?"

I was about to retaliate when I heard Max's voice. He was standing in the doorway of his house with his back to us saying something to who I'm going to assume is his mother. We watched as he stood there explaining something to her, obviously getting annoyed. If the stomp or the head roll were any clue.

Finally after five minutes of watching his back, Max turned around. The first thing he noticed was me, he looked surprised to see me there. I guess when he asked Luke for a ride he didn't put two and two together. Maybe he was upset that I was here, could he have possibly found out about my crush on him? Was I too obvious, or pushy last night? Pushing those thoughts out of my mind, I let a smile slide on to my face and waved at him. Luke did to. Max seemed to calm down after that and he lifted two fingers and waved back at us.

"What's up guys?" Max asked as he hopped into the back seat.

Luke shrugged as he put the car into reverse. "Same old crap, you?"

"Yeah, same!" Max said with a smile, before turning his gaze towards me. "What about you Rainie?"

I shrugged, not bothering to answer him with words. I know it was wrong of me to be mad at him, it's not like he knew I liked him when he asked me out to what obviously wasn't a date, but still I was mad.

Max gave me a strange look, probably wondering why I suddenly forgot how to talk and found it acceptable to grunt at him instead. But he didn't dwell on it to long before throwing himself into some sports related conversation with Luke. Boys.
