I stared at Daniel for a whole two minutes as I tried to comprehend his words.
Will you be my girlfriend?
What was I supposed to say? We only just went out on our first date, I can't commit yet. I'm just not ready.
"Listen Danie-"
"Wait a week!"
"What?" I asked as I stared at Daniel, who had just interupted me mid let down speech.
"Wait a week" he repeated "Let me prove to you that its worthit, that I'm, worthit - wait a week!"
Talk about being put on the spot. But Daniel was a nice guy, and if you ignored his overly romantic side, he was pretty damn amazing. So why shouldn't I give him a week? Give me a week! Maybe this could turn into something amazing.
"Okay!" I agreed, a smile spreading across my face.
Daniel let a matching smile take over his features before he grabbed my face, pulled me closer to him and kissed me. No asking, no hesitation - the way a kiss should be.
"Well isn't this cute"
I pulled away from Daniel and turned around to find Max standing behind us.
"Oh, hey man!" Daniel said as he stood up and extended his hand. Max took it and lead him into one of those hugs that boys do - you know the one.
"Yeah, hey!" Max mumbled "You mind if I steal your girl away for a sec. I wanna give the birthday girl her present"
Daniel nodded "By all means"
Max placed his hand on my back and started leading me towards the house. He didn't say anything, but his hand never left my back - which I hate to admit, was kind of nice. We slipped through the gate and made our way around to the front, entering through the front door. My mom insisted on leaving the back door locked so that no straggling couples made there way onto her expensive couch.
Once inside Max started up the stairs, and motioned for me to follow. He lead me past Lukes room before putting a blindfold over my eyes and telling me to take his hand. Hesitantly I slipped my hand into his and let him lead me down the hall.
"Okay" Max said as he grabbed my shoulders to stop me. "Open your eyes"
I took the blindfold off and opened my eyes. I was standing in front of my room, which was decorated with tons of colorful ballons. All different shapes and sizes - it was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.
"Oh my god!" I breathed as I pushed a couple of ballons out of the way and walked into my room. In the middle of my bed lay a perfectly wrapped gift, with one final ballon floating from it's ribbon.
I looked back at Max before walking towards my bed and lifting the small box, a post it note was stuck to the bottom. Turning over the box, I read the message.
I know you're not the romantic type, hope this shows you romance can be fun!
Love, Max
I turned back to him smiling "I thought you had a girlfriend"
Max shrugged "I did... do. But not for long, I'm going to see her Thursday, I'll break up with her then." He came over to me and slipped his hands into mine "Rainie, please! Take a chance on me, on us!"
"Max" I mumbled, looking down at out joined hands "What about Daniel?"
Max's smile fell from his face "Ditch him! You liked me first anyway, he was only able to swoop in because I screwed up - but I'm, here now!"
