Chapter 1
I walked through the busy school hallway, I had just finished my last class for the day -biology- and I was supposed to be meeting my best friend Simone by her locker, she was gonna give me a ride home. Normally I catch a ride with my older brother Luke but he's got football practice today and I'm not really interested in waiting around for him.
"Hey bitch!" Simone called when she saw me approaching. I waved at her, a smile spread across my face. Simone has been my best friend since kinder garden, we're so different but it seems that that's what makes our relationship work so well.
"Hey" I replied "Ready to go?" Simone nodded as she stuffed her books into her messy locker, struggling to get it closed without having papers fly everywhere.
"Are you ever gonna clean that thing?" I asked. Simone shrugged as she lifted her backpack up from off the floor and started down the hallway towards the schools entrance.
"Why should I?" she asked. I let out a low chuckle, why should she? Because her locker looks like a bomb hit it, that's why! Rolling her eyes Simone ignored my chuckles and fished her car keys out of the black hole she likes to call her purse, pushing the schools doors open at the same time.
"Honestly, I don't know how she ever finds anything in there!" My friend Zach said as he came up beside me. Simone turned around and glared at him. "Just for that Zach, Rainie gets shotgun!"
I stuck my tongue out at him as I scanned the parking lot for Simones car. I found it in the far corner of the parking lot. It was a ratty old car, nothing special by any stretch of the imagination, but Simone worked hard over the summer and saved up enough money to pay for it by herself, so she loved it -and that was an understatement!
"Come on Simone" Zach complained as we made our way over to the car "Rainie got shotgun last time, it's my turn!" Simone rolled her eyes at him before flipping him off "Teaches you to make fun of me!"
Laughing I got into the car and strapped myself in "Chill your stuff man, I barely ever go with you guys! You'll get shotgun tomorrow."
"Not if I don't let!" Simone replied quickly, raising one eyebrow at him. Zach huffed as he buckled his seat belt and sulked into his seat, sometimes i'm not sure if that boy is 16 or 6!

"Rainie, is that you?" my mother called as I walked into the house. "Yeah mom" I called back "It's me!" I closed the door behind me before dropping my backpack into the coat closet and making my way into the kitchen. I found my mother over the stove making pancakes. It was a tradition in my house, to have breakfast for dinner every Friday night. Kind of like a fun way to kick off the weekend.
"Wow Mom" I said as I made my over to her "These smell great." My mother smiled down on me as she sprinkled a few chocolate chips over the pancake batter and started to mix.
"Thanks sweetheart"
I sat down at the kitchen table and took my phone out of my pocket. I started flipping through the selfies that Zach and Simone had taken today with out telling me. I stopped at one where Simone had her long blond waves split in two and Zach was pulling her hair to either side. Pippy long-stocking style. Laughing I sent this picture to our texting group, starting an hour long conversation on whether selfies are socially acceptable or not. I vote not! Unless you're in the privacy of your own room of course. I hadn't noticed how much time had gone by until my brother Luke walked in, a couple of his football playing friends behind him.
"Hey mom" he said as he kissed my moms cheek "Rainie"
I shot him a smile before looking behind him at his two friends. I knew them both. Their names were Daniel and Alex. I waved at them, and they both quickly waved back. Luke and I have always been pretty close, considering we're only a year apart, so more then once I've ended up chilling with his friends and him mine.
