I put my homework into my bag and hopped onto Lydia's couch. Lydia stacked all of her unfinished homework books on the table, she couldn't actually finish her work if her grade depended on it. Which it does. Lydia has been my best friend ever since high school began. I really can't imagine life without her. She does have some really bad working habits though. She always leaves one question unfinished or one paragraph not complete. And then comes to me in the very morning to help her finish. She's such a child. The tv was already on because she hated doing her work in silence. I switched through the channels chewing my gum.
"Melody, I'm hungry."
"It's your house remember." My eyes rolled out of habit.
"This morning 4 teens were injured in a school shooting in Greeley, Colorado. Thankfully there were no deaths."
"Ooh.. What's that?" Lydia called turning her head into the fridge.
"The news. Apparently a seventeen year old student pulled out a gun in school and shot four people." I answered paying attention to the tv.
"Oh my gosh. That's scary. I couldn't imagine going through this in our school." Me neither.
I opened my mouth to speak but changed my mind. I hated to put my self in these situations it scares me way too much.
"Why did he do it though?" She asked.
"Maybe if you'd listen," I mumbled.
"Students say Jack Suheret seemed pretty mad and out of it all day. He pulled put out a gun on his classmate Matt Ardrin when he made a joke about the way he dressed this morning. When he injured Matt he ran out and three other students tried stopping him and he injured them too. He is now in custody and police are investigating his home and parents to find out how he'd gotten a weapon." The news reporter continued.
Lydia had taken a seat beside me on her couch. Her twin brother Jayson walked into the living room. I noticed he was shirtless and he has the body of a Greek god. His abs and muscles are so amazing I really had to try and stop myself from drooling and pay attention. He walked passed us into the kitchen but I heard his footsteps come back to us to listen to the news about the shooting.
"Students of Creekhill High are traumatized and are in fear. We are hoping for a successful recovery for those who were hurt." She concluded.
"Woah. That's just crazy." Jayson said with a sigh and took a seat on the armrest beside me.
"I know. I hate how much fear I have to live in from things like this." I responded switching the channel.
"Honestly the world is just getting worse and worse. These things are happening more often than they should. There's no escaping it. But don't be scared Melody ." He said looking me in my eyes. I sighed. I can't just not be afraid.
"As long as I'm here I'll protect you guys. I swear." His strong words made me feel safer. I watched his light brown eyes as he made glances between me and Lydia. He was really serious, and I trusted him with that.
