chapter ten  clues and hints

the birds were chirping as sun rays beamed on finn's face. it was nine in the morning and millie asked finn to come over, so he's on his way to her house.

approaching the browns' house, finn knocked on the door, but this time an older woman, who definitely wasn't millie opened the door. "may i help you?"

"uh, hi i'm here for millie."

"millie went back to bed. you can go up stairs if you want to." the unidentified woman explained. "i'm her mother, by the way."

"um, thank you, mrs. brown." finn says, letting himself in the familiar house.

finn climbed up the stairs, holding the railing, until he finally arrived at millie's bedroom full of bad memories.

finn lightly knocked. "millie?" no answer. the boy twisted the doorknob open, only to reveal a sleeping millie on her bed.

finn sat beside millie, whose hair was tangled, and all over her face. the curly haired boy pushed a wavy strand of millie's hair behind her ear.

"wake up, mills." finn lightly tapped her shoulder. then, a pair of brown eyes opened, meeting finn's dark ones. "morning, sleeping beauty."

"hey, batman." millie yawned and rubbed her eyes, "my mom let you in?"

"yeah. anyhow, why'd you want me to come over?"

"nothing, really. i was just bored... and you always entertain me-"

"i entertain you, huh?" finn wiggles his eye brows.

"you know what, never mind." mille laughed. finn darted his eyes to her window, and a black marker stood on the ledge. he stood up, walking towards it.

"were you talking to your soulmate?" finn sat on the small chair next to the curtained window, as millie laid on her stomach, resting her elbows on the bed keeping her up, both of her palms on her cheeks.

"just for some closure. i just told him 'fuck you'."

"wow, my soulmate did the same."

"maybe she was tired of you."

"yeah, probably." he agreed. "and i wrote 'fuck you, too' back on my wrist just right below hers."

millie raised her brows. "weird."

"super weird." finn took out his phone as it rung from his back pocket, "gaten?"

millie sat up, next to finn awkwardly as he talked to someone who was named gaten.

"um, sure." finn bit his lip, "see you soon." he ended the call, and looked at millie. "hey, my friends asked me to hangout..."

"no! no! go with them, finn. it's alright."

"what are you gonna do, here, alone?"

"damn, finn, it's okay! i can live without you for a few hours. just go."

"thanks, mills."

"have fun, batman!"

as soon as the door shut closed, millie laid on her bed again, she couldn't stop thinking about earlier. how could finn and i have the same writings on our wrists? could we be soulmates? millie gasped at the thought.

millie was digging deeper through all the times she hung out with finn. she was hunting for the clues and hints.

first, they always wore long sleeved shirts. millie noticed that, it was those two days when she wanted to keep her masterpiece on her arm. and for those two days finn was also wearing long sleeved shirts. and when she washed her art, they both wore shirts the next day.

"i drew on my arm, remember?" finn nodded, "and hey, you're wearing a shirt, too!"

"i had something on my arm." finn explained.

second, every time one of them (usually millie) mentions their soulmate, there would be something in common.

"just for some closure. i just told him 'fuck you'."

"wow, my soulmate did the same."

millie sat up, and looked at her bedside table, seeing the note that had finn's address. the writing— it was so, so, familiar... it was almost like... her soulmate's.

"and how do you know that? god, you act as if you're my soulmate."

millie started to connect the dots, with all this evidence, she thought,

what if i was his soulmate?
