Chapter 1: Wake Up, Sunshine

Lina POV

I heard a loud beeping sound interrupting my pleasant dream of some hot guy rubbing my back with sunscreen on the beach.

" Ah! " I shot up from my sleep and turned it off. I stared at the girl in the mirror, tangled blonde hair, confused blue eyes, faint freckles. Making my way to the bathroom, I opened a cupboard. I need detangler, hairspray, a brush, a comb, a spray bottle filled with water just to do my hair in the morning. After pulling out a chunk of hair I pulled it into a bun. I grabbed my uniform and ran to get to The Pearl Cup, the diner I work at.

" Lina, you're late again? " my friend Sydney shot me a sympathetic smile while my boss ranted on about how being late is terrible. Sydney mimicked all of Ms. White's movements, her brown hair sticking to her head because of how hot is was in here.

" Now go! " Ms. White threw me out of her office. I shrugged at Sydney. She smiled at me and made her way around the diner. I put on my silver apron to complete my uniform, a black skirt, white button-down shirt and silver apron.

" Lina! " Isabelle screamed, she was with her posse. Krystal my ex-bestie, Lily a bookworm and Damon my crush. Isabelle, the girl who stole my best friend. She's also that popular girl, and in IISuperwomanII's words she's an MRT! Miss Rude Thang! Did I mention that she stole Krystal, my best friend. Oh I did.

" Yes, " I forced a smile and convinced myself to not punch her in the face.

" I want something to drink, " she shot daggers with her eyes.

" What would you like? " I stood with confidence.

" A strawberry milkshake, no whipped cream or cherry, " she flipped her ginger hair.

" Krystal? " I shivered saying her name.

" Nothing for me, " she hid her face with her white-blond  hair.

" Lily? "

" What? " she looked up from the giant book she was reading. Her beautiful black hair fell on her face. I wish I had hair like that. She may be a bookworm but she's popular.

" Do you want anything to drink, nerd? " Isabelle insulted her. Lily just shook her head and sank in her seat. Way to be a friend.

" What about you baby? " she smothered Damon in kisses.

" Vanilla Latte, " he smiled at me, I smiled back.

" You can leave now. " Right when I left Isabelle stuck her tongue down Damon's throat. Gross.

" Hey, I'll take that table if you want, " Sydney offered.

I shook my head, " It's fine. " Sydney strolled down the space between a couple's table and Isabelle's and poured an orange juice on her head. I bit my lip to conceal a laugh.

" Ugh! " Isabelle let out a screech. She was covered in citrus, looking like a wet rat. I smiled knowing that she would have to leave.

" We're out of here! " she screamed and her posse followed her. I spent the rest of my shift cleaning tables and serving drinks, almost no one was ordering food today. I walked home in the April rain, humming all the way home.
