SHE PROMISED
( part two, chapter forty-three )

KLAUS HAD DECIDED THAT ELLE WOULD BE staying with them at the Abattoir until she had figured out her current situation with Cordelia. For now, both sisters had not contacted each other and Elle was sure it would stay that way for a long time. Elle didn't really object to staying with her brothers; she was happy to be under the same roof as family. Klaus had even made sure to bring her belongings to their home, sneaking in while Cordelia was gone or at work.

She woke up and quickly rubbed the sleep from her eyes. Elle sat up and stretched her tired limbs, almost wincing when she heard both her elbows crack loudly, it being the only sound in her otherwise quiet room. She looked over at the nightstand, spotting her phone charging. She picked it up and noticed that there were no missed calls or texts, something she had strongly suspected but was disappointed to see. She also saw the note next to it, written in Klaus' handwriting.

It read: COME DOWNSTAIRS WHEN YOU'RE READY. I HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU.

Elle smiled and swung her legs over the edge of the bed. It was a bit odd how comfortable the bed was, much more comfortable than the bed in her own room. She was staying in one of the guest rooms, far away from Kol's; she still wasn't on speaking terms with her older brother.

She quickly changed into suitable clothes, both the jeans and T-shirt very plain compared to what she'd usually wear but she had managed to toss on her pinned denim jacket.

She exited her room and looked down at the courtyard below. Klaus was talking with a dark skinned woman with wild curly hair, her arms crossed over her chest. "Morning, Nik," she called and walked down the stairs, her feather earring bumping against her neck as she did. Elle nodded at the woman. "Who's this?"

"I can't be upset that you don't recognize me," the woman said, in an accent similar to Elle's and Klaus'. "Then again, I was in a much blonder body."

Elle raised a brow and grinned. "Rebekah," she deduced and nodded to herself. "Wow, hi. You look... less vampire-y than usual. Much more... witch bitch." She gestured with her hands to Rebekah's new body.

Rebekah raised a brow and released a scoff. "Well, then."

"Woah, woah, I never said that was a bad thing," Elle defended, waving her hands. "In fact, that's what I like about you. It always keeps you on your toes." She smiled. "How's the body?"

"I spent a week in a witch loony bin," Rebekah complained and her arms dropped to her sides. "It was hell."

"Sounds like it," Elle chuckled. She nudged Klaus. "Why didn't you tell me she was back in town? And in a different body, might I add?"

"Well, love, considering all you were going through," Klaus said, "I thought it best to let you rest for now."

"Considerate... but stupid," Elle teased. Rebekah chuckled at the girl's comment.

She wanted to ask Rebekah if she knew, if Klaus or Elijah or anyone had revealed to her the truth of her origin, but she didn't want to make a scene (despite them being alone). But by the way Rebekah was speaking, it was as if there was nothing wrong, as if Elle nothing more than the girl she had met on the street a year ago.

She looked over at Klaus, who was watching his two sisters. He gave her a subtle nod, which confused her until Rebekah had latched herself onto the witch. Elle nearly jumped from the contact, feeling the (sorta) Original hug her tightly.

"Thank you for taking care of our brother," Rebekah whispered and Elle nearly gasped. "I missed you, little sister."

Elle instantly started to sniffle, gripping the fabric of Rebekah's jacket tightly. She almost started to shake in Rebekah's arms but hugged her sister tightly. She whimpered her sister's name, clinging onto Rebekah.

Rebekah smiled, cupping the back of Elle's head and gently petting her hair. When they pulled away, she cupped Elle's face and used her thumbs to wipe away Elle's tears. "Look at you, all grown up," Rebekah smiled. She glared at Klaus. "Nik, why didn't you tell me this earlier?"

"Why ruin the surprise?" Klaus said in a teasing manner.

"'Ruin the surprise'?" Rebekah echoed. "I would have preferred it be ruined then find out as soon as I get away from the nutjobs!" She rubs her forehead. "God, Nik, how could you not tell me?"

"Isn't this better?" Klaus gives another one of his mischievous grins, one that both sisters know very well. "The three of us, reunited at last; if only Elijah were here, it'd be a family reunion."

Rebekah looked down at her feet and rubbed her arm. "Well," she mutters and when she looks up, both her brother and sister are looking up at her. "There's kind of something I need to tell you."
