SHE PROMISED
( part two, chapter forty-six )

SHE AWKWARDLY FIDGETED IN HER DRESS, pulling the skirt lower but then inadvertently revealing more of her chest. She adjusted the dress again and again, even when someone called out to her. "Elle!"

She turned to spot Davina, dressed in a pretty velvet dress. "Hey... it's been a while," Davina said awkwardly, biting her lip. The two witches hadn't spoken in several months, seeing as both were dealing with their own problems.

"Yeah, a bit," Elle said. "Sorry we haven't talked much. I know I kinda said the whole 'shunned-witches-need-to-stick-together' then bailed on you." The last statement was somewhat true; while the two girls did hang out, it wasn't as often as they'd liked. In fact, the last she even texted Davina had been months ago. She felt completely awful about the whole thing.

Davina chuckled. "It's not your fault." She gave the younger witch a kind smile. "You look nice."

Elle was dressed in one of Rebekah's dresses, a forest green dress that matched her eyes and contrasted with her earring. She rarely wore make up but she felt this was the type of occasion to do so. She looked down at herself and again adjusted the skirt. "Thanks. It's Bekah's; I just wish that it wasn't so short." At least she was wearing tights.

"Bekah?" Davina asked, tilting her head. "I didn't really how you and Rebekah were so close."

"I mean, we are sisters," Elle said then almost slapped her forehead. She hadn't told Davina yet and was planning on it, but seeing the look on Davina's face stopped her. The brunette was calm, not at all surprised. Then it dawned on her. "Kol told you, didn't he?"

"Yeah," Davina said and nodded.

"Well... I guess I owe him a thanks," Elle said, scratching the back of her neck. "He saved me an awkward explanation that probably would've involved screaming and crying. Maybe both from me."

Both the girls chuckle. "Have you seen Kol lately? He was supposed to be my date."

"We haven't talked in a while," Elle said and looked down at her heels. The siblings had yet to talk to one another about the events concerning their mother, with Kol practically betraying her. "And why? Does little ole' you have a crush on my brother?"

Davina blushed. "We should head inside, don't you think?" she asked, instantly deflecting the question.

It was obvious there was something the older witch wasn't telling her but Elle ignored it. She offered her arm. "Let's go, shall we?"

Davina took Elle's arm, and the two walked in with Elle fingering the camera strap around her neck. Before Elle could ask where they should sit, they hear a familiar voice call out to them. "Davina! Elle!"

It's Josh, dressed in a fine suit. He's already sitting on one of the benches and the two witches join him. It's barely a minute later when a handsome werewolf walks towards them. He looks to Davina and Elle, asking, "May I?"

Elle looked up at the werewolf then back at Josh, already pushing Davina out of the way. "Oh, yes, please! Go right ahead!"

He almost blushes as they allow him to sit beside Josh, and Elle almost squealed when she sees them reach for each other hands. She hit her hand against Davina's arm, both of them smiling and happy for their friend.

When Elle realized that everyone is standing, she too stood and looked towards the entrance. Hayley is standing in her beautiful white gown, her hair down and make up perfectly. The werewolf gives her a smile, to which she returns.

Elle lifts up the camera dangling from her neck, her finger poised on the button. With all of the rush planning the wedding, Hayley had forgotten to hire a wedding photographer but the witch had volunteered to do so. Truth be told, she was silently begging for something like this to happen; she'd only ever took pictutes of landscapes and animals, so this was a fresh new adventure.

Hayley's husband-to-be appears beside her, smiling at Hayley, and the two clasp their hands. Elle took several pictures of them as they walk down the aisle and when they reach the two staircases, they split apart. They met once more on the balcony, where Mary, Jackson's grandmother, was waiting for them.

"Please be seated," Mary said and everyone takes their seats. "We gather together as a community seeking peace, inspired by this couple standing before you. There was a time when werewolves saw themselves not as cursed, but blessed with connection to our most pure selves. And tonight, we honor that blessing with the long-awaited unification of the two Crescent bloodlines. In doing so, we choose to embrace Hayley's vampire nature. With this union, Hayley with share her unique gifts with her pack." As she spoke, she wrapped a ribbon with baby's breath flowers around the couple's hands. She passed them a long lit match, which they both hold. "And now, your vows."

Elle raised her camera once more, capturing the happy moments with a few pushes of her button.

Jackson is the first to speak. "I pledge to honor and defend you and your above all others."

"To share in blessings and burdens," Hayley said. "To be your advocate, your champion."

"To be your comfort, your sanctuary, and for as long as we both shall live."

"To be your family."

"To be your family."

Together, they lit the candle beside them and blow out the match. It's a beautiful moment and Elle smiled at it, but on the inside, she mourns for her brother. It was practically obvious to everyone how in love Elijah was 一 is with Hayley, and it must kill him on the inside to see this union.

"You two have endured all the traditional werewolf rituals and trials," Mary said. "There is only one remaining 一 Jackson, you may kiss your bride."

It may have been a few second, but it feels like forever until Jackson cups Hayley's face and kisses her gently. Elle makes sure to capture that moment; out of all of the pictures she'd take, that would be the first to be printed and delivered straight to the couple. When they pulled away, Hayley smiled as Jackson's eyes glowed golden. She looked down at the crowd, eyeing the werewolves, all of their eyes turning golden as well.

Elle looked around as well. The werewolves in the pews are smiling, curiously chatting with one another. She looked up, spotting both Elijah and Klaus standing on the balcony across from Hayley and Jackson. Klaus made eye contact with her, and they both give each other a tender smile.
