SHE PROMISED
( part two, chapter fifty )

WHEN KLAUS HAD TOLD HER THAT their problem with Finn had been solved, Elle had been over the moon, but that good news didn't matter with Kol still being dead and the revelation that Mikael was once again out and about, most likely causing all sorts of problems. Despite Elle being around them and welcomed back into the Mikaelson clan, she still had yet to see their father again. However, Klaus did tell her that he had invited their long lost older sister Freya to brunch, so she felt slightly better.

She walked quietly into the dining room, pushing a loose strand behind her ear. She turned the corner to find Freya sitting at the table already, with Klaus and Elijah already sitting with her. Food and drinks sat in front of each of them, yet none of them reached to eat or drink.

Her footsteps caught the attention of the three older Mikaelsons, and Freya smiled at her appearance. Freya stood, walking to meet Elle in the middle. "Little sister, it's good to see you again," she said, taking one of Elle's hands in hers.

"It's good to see you too, Frey." Elle gave her a weak smile, squeezing her older sister's hand in response. "Sorry I'm not my usual preppy appearance, you know?"

"It's all right," Freya said. Internally, she was happy that she had been giving a nickname; despite it being rather small, it made her feel closer to Elle already. "Let's eat, shall we?"

"Yeah, yeah, that'd be great," Elle agreed, moving to sit beside Freya. "So, what exactly did I miss?"

"Our older sister was just about to explain everything she knows of our evil aunt Dahlia," Klaus explained.

Freya nodded, awkwardly clearing her throat. "The first thing you should know is that Dahlia is the most powerful witch I've ever seen; she craves more power still. Right now, she is like me 一 limited to one year of life in a century. But she wanted to be free of that restriction. To gain true immortality. And that is why she will come here 一 drawn by your daughter to take the child's power for herself. And she would kill anyone who would defy her."

"And yet you would defy her?" Elijah asked.

"I don't have a choice," Freya said. "She will never let me be free. My one chance is to align with you and kill her."

"No offense, Frey, but that sounds a bit easier said than done," Elle said. "I'm not totally against you teaming up with us but 一" She was roughly cut off by Klaus.

"She's right!" Klaus said. "Now that we're all suitably motivated, let's talk specifics!"

"For you to understand, I need to start from the beginning," Freya said. "After taking me from my family, Dahlia used me to forge a new brand of connective magic, one that augmented my power even as it allowed her to draw from me. Once we were bonded, Dahlia became unstoppable. She wasted no time proving her might.

"The chief of a nearby village threatened to run us off, accusing Dahlia of witchcraft. She decided to make an example of the entire encampment 一 men, women, children. She killed them all with a wave of her hand. That was the first inkling of the power Dahlia had. Over the course of a thousand years, she's only grown stronger." Freya looked over at Klaus, who sat at the head of the table. "And she will bring all of her power to bear against you when she comes for your child."

A sense of dread instantly filled in Elle's stomach. She cupped a hand over her mouth and took a deep breath. If Dahlia could do that with only one witch's powers... she didn't want to imagine what she could do with an entire coven. The brunette glanced over at Elijah and Klaus.

The tension was cut when Elijah's phone rang. The eldest brother pulled out his phone and after reading the name, he looked at his sisters and brother. "Excuse me." He stayed out there for a few minutes, speaking out in the hall in hushed tones. It was awkwardly quiet in the room without him. When he returned, Elijah sat back at his chair. "My apologies," he said. "Please, continue."

Klaus hummed quietly to himself. "Your stories are fascinating," he remarked, a sense of sarcasm laced in his words, "and Dahlia does indeed sound dreadful, but Elijah and I have killed out fair share of evil witches. This would be Elle's first, however." He winked at his little sister.

Elle immediately ducked her head. She never had the chance to sit him down and properly tell him about what she did to Joseph, and in all honesty, she didn't want to. She knew their relationship was strong, and they had bonded over certain types of things (mainly their love for art), but she wasn't sure how it would change if she revealed the truth 一 that she murdered Joseph less than two years ago... would he still look at her the same?

Everyone in the room, or more like the supernatural community, knew who the Originals were. They were the dreaded Mikaelsons, who had several centuries under their belts and killed without hesitation. None were more feared than Niklaus Mikaelson, the Original hybrid. Elle didn't care that her brothers and sister had killed before, but that's mainly because it was in their nature. They were vampires, hungering for the blood of humans; it wasn't their fault they killed. Sometimes they didn't have a choice. But Elle was human, a little witch with still no control of her powerful magic, and her situation was much different.

She glanced over at Klaus, watching him as he listened intently to Freya's story. He wouldn't care that she killed someone before... would he?
