“Whoops.”
The pink berry blossom petals that I stepped on flashed gold then fluttered away with the light breeze. I sighed as the petals burst into gold dust like mini fireworks. I don’t enjoy watching the berry blossom petals tumble to the ground. It reminds me of how quickly and quietly my mother had died when I was 4 years old. I raised my chin and rubbed the lonely tear on my cheek. This was the place where I’d always visit when I’m upset or stressed out about something. I feel like my mother is here, watching me, supporting me, suffering with me.
Out of all the bursting petals, I detected a petal grasping onto a berry blossom for its dear life in the distance. The wind was tugging on it whispering,
“Fall down. Just give up.”
Without hesitation I sprinted over to the area where it was about to fall and caught it in my cupped hands. I smiled at the petal thanking myself for making my heart feel warmer. The pink petal bit at my finger tips angrily. I guess it wanted to return to its home. I plucked out one of my thick, long, black hair strands and tied it around the end of the petal. The petal squeezed my thumb panting. So I squeezed it back. I guess it's just what they do. Then I tied it to a sturdy branch. It looked so happy. It was crying tears of joy.
Then I continued down the white concrete path across the clear green pond until I came across a field of long, bronze, grass. Miniature pink fairies danced around in the sweet smelling air and tiny nymphs sang lovely lullabies which put me to sleep. I sunk down into the silky grass and closed my eyes, falling asleep peacefully.
“Good bye, my fantasy.” I said to myself.
That was the dream my mother told me to dream about every night. It reminds me of her every time. And because I love my mother, I love sleeping and dreaming.
Moments later I woke up from my dream and rubbed my eyes.
“Whoops.” I muttered.
I tightened my eyelids as hard as I could, trying not to get the dirt in my eyes. I carefully tried to make my way over to the washroom tripping over pots and pans. Some dirt particles scratched my eyes and drops of tears formed around my eyes. After I rinsed my face I walked over to the bedroom. I say ‘the’ because I share it with my two younger brothers who are 4 and 5 years old and my grandpa. Well, they're not really my blood brothers, I found them under a bridge when they were a few months old and took them under my wing. But because I’m the oldest who can actually make money I do all the house work and pay the house rent. Where I live is in the ghetto in a puny house beside a lake in the richest province.
I bet you we’re the poorest family who owns a house in this place. I make money by singing on the streets. That’s it. But the strange thing is, I wear the most expensive looking dresses. Not the kind you find at Prada, Balenciaga, Valentino and Gucci, but expensive as in looks. My mom used to work at a high business before she past-away. She sowed several cute fashioned dresses to give to me as a farewell gift.
"Micheal, Tyler, when grandpa wakes up I want you to tell him that I'll be out with Isabelle at the park tonight."
I could hear Micheal running up to me at the front door, well our only door.
"Sis, you'll be back right?"
His wet dark brown eyes sparkled. I smiled back at him and replied,
"Don't worry. I won't be gone for long. Pray for me to return and maybe I'll come back for you two."
Micheal hugged my leg and nodded. Min ho was such a cute kid. Even though he was 4 years old he was mature and already friendly. I craned my head over to peer over the grey wall.
