Prologue

Prologue

Kai scanned the marble hallway in a flash. Her heart beat was as fast as a humming bird's wings. She quickly rubbed the back of her hand on the bottom of her chin. She looked down at her hand which was smudged with water. Was it sweat or tears, she couldn't tell.

Then coming from the queen's chamber, marching footsteps echoed down towards the hall. Kai gasped, and tried shoving herself into a hefty suit of armor which was standing tall along the palace's wall. The marching stoped and one of the soldiers bellowed, "INTRUDER!". About 10 soldiers in silver hurried out of the chamber.

Kai clenched her eyelids together and prayed for her safety. But as she lowered her head a piece of the helmet from the armor tumbled down to the hard floor, mocking her. Kai's heart skipped a beat. The helmet piece rolled over to the other side of the hall hiding behind another suit of armor very similar to the others. Kai ducked down trying to not let her long black hair hang out. The soldiers ran towards her then past her.

Kai let out a sigh then peeked over to see if they were still there. The soldiers were long gone by then. She slowly pushed herself out of the armor trying not to let another piece fall out of place. Then something came up in Kai's mind. She swiftly snatched the spear in the armor's fist. "This should do." she muttered to herself. She tried to lift it off the ground but failed. "Ouch.. wha- what's this?" she whimpered. Kai examined her palms. Blood dripped onto the white marble floor. Her hands were pure red and swelling in pain. She looked back at the spear. Rust had formed everywhere and scratched her palms. "I have to do this for Ash."

Kai got up to her feet and ran down the hall towards the cell tower. It got darker and darker as she ran. Soon it got damp and the walls got narrow. Kai's pant and heavy footsteps were the only thing heard through the thin and stony path. "A light! Maybe that's where Luke is being held capti-" Kai came to a halt and her bare feet skidded painfully. Her body froze and her eyes refused to blink. The hallway continued further into a dark pit of nothingness. The light didn't come from outside but form a torch held by a person. The person wasn't just any person either. That person had twenty men behind her.

"Check mate." said the queen with an hideous grin. She passed her torch over to the soldier beside her. Kai wanted to scream. She wanted to run back. But she didn't. "T-this is all just a dream i'm in. None of this is real. When my body wakes up my spirit will return." Kai muttered to herself. The queen's cackle filled the moist air. "Foolish child. You think this is a dream? You thought you made this fantasy? Ever since you were little, you thought you dreamed beautiful dreams that filled your heart with happiness didn't you. Well guess what. This is reality, you puny child. Chain her guards!"

Kai's fists were shaking. She clenched her spear and swung it over her head and hit a guard at the side of his helmet and screamed, "THIS IS MY DREAM, MY FANTASY. THE ONE MY MOTHER GAVE ME WHEN SHE LEFT. YOU LISTEN TO WHAT I SAY AND DON'T GET IN MY WAY!" Everyone was silent and froze in their positions. The queen and her guards looked above Kai's head with their jaws to the floor. All the capital's army and their foul queen scurried down the underground mucky hall with their tails between their legs .

Kai gasped and turned her head to the side. A wondrous, achromatic light shone behind Kai. She quickly turned around to see what it was. But as she did, the light vanished into nothingness. Kai studied her hands which immediately healed. "What's going on?" she said to herself.
