I wasn't the best acting kid at school. I wasn't a soc, that was for sure, but I wouldn't say I was a greaser ethier. I wasn't dirty like the rest of the greaser girls but I wasn't loaded like the soc girls.

I wasn't really anything, honestly. I was pretty popular, but that was only because I was a pretty fun person to hang around with, other than that I had soc guys always hitting on me and greaser guys always... well... doing the same.

See, being stuck right in the middle of soc and greaser really gives you a wide view of things. You see the socs don't all have it made but you see that greasers get the worst end of the deal..  all the time.

I avoided most greasers, considering almost all of them were trouble. There were 2 greaser gangs I knew of. Tim Shepards gang and the Curtis gang.

I had seen Ponyboy Curtis around school a few times but never even so much as said hi.

He was always with other boys from the gang but when he wasn't he was tucked away in the corner of the library somewhere.

I did the same too. It was I was at the library or I was out seeing movies or just strolling around my neighborhood, which wasn't the best idea considering where I lived and it was dark at that exact moment.

I shoved my hands into my pockets. I felt goosebumps rise as a gust of wind came by.

I wouldn't have been out walking if it weren't for my parents fighting. They did that alot. So I had slipped out my window and made a run away from my house.

I had no clue where I was headed, just into the dark I suppose.

I jumped to the sound of a horn behind me and spun around.

Nice, clean, new, car. Socs.

"Shit." I mumbled under my breath as 4 or 5 guys jumped out.

I turned to make a run for it as they chased after me.

I didn't stop, only to look back a few times.

This isn't their side of town. They need to get lost.

I sprinted past a bush when I felt a soft hand pull me in.

I went to scream out for help but a hand slapped over my mouth as the socs ran right past the bush. When they were out of sight then hand softly removed itself.

I jumped up and spun around to see a smaller boy with raven hair and the biggest puppy dog eyes.

"What the fuck?!" I snapped as he stood and brushed off his pants.

"I was- was only trying to help." He whispered. I felt bad for yelling. This kid wouldn't hurt a fly.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"Johnny Cade, but my friends call me Johnny Cakes." He answered. I smiled at him.

"Y/n." I replied. He smiled at me softly.

"What're you doing walking 9ut by your lonesome? Girls shouldn't be walking by themselves." He said as we walked down the sidewalk togther.

"Ah, just my folks." I said as if it was nothing.

"Mine too. Where you headed?" He questioned as he looked at me with those soft eyes. He was the cutest thing.

"I... I don't know." I shrugged.

His eyes grew wide with worry.

"You don't have anywhere to go?!" He asked, wildly.

"Well no i-"

"You can stay at my buddies house. That's where I'm headed." He said.

"No! I don't want to intrude.!" I exclaimed.

"Please, Darry don't mind." He begged.

Darry? Darry Curtis? Wasn't he like, the leader of the Curtis gang?

"Curtis?" I asked.

"You know him?" He questioned.

I kicked a can with the tip of my shoes.

"Yeah, I've heard his name." I replied. I had. I went to school with his little brother.

"See, he won't mind at all. He just wants everyone safe." He said as he opened the gate to a smaller house with the lights on.

"No! No! I can't-" but before I could deny he had pulled me inside.

The house smelled of coffee and cigarettes.

There was about 6 guys sat. I knew Ponyboy and Darrys face but the rest were unfamiliar.

They all stopped and looked up at me.

"Darry, this is y/n. She almost got caught by some socs and she ain't got no where to stay." Johnny explained.

"She's more than welcome to take up the sofa." He said. He wasn't mean at all like the rumors said.

Johnny let go of my hand and made his way to Pony. I stood in the corner, akwardly hudled.

"What's a pretty girl like you doing walking alone?" A tall, handsome boy said. He had chestnut hair and dark brown eyes. He was actually really handsome.

He smirked at me and slowly pressed me against the wall.

"Dally!" Darry snapped. Dally? As in Dallas Winston?

"Dally?" I asked.

He raised an eyebrow and smirked.

"So you've heard of me?" He asked, his hands snaking to my waist.

"Dal. Leave her alone, would ya?" Ponyboy interjected but he ignored the gang tellin him off.

"Dallas!" Darry yelled as he stood. Dally smirked and backed up.

"Come on, Dar. You can't blame him. She's a looker." A handsome boy spoke up. He was pretty.

"Soda, get up to your room." Darry growled.

So that's the 3rd Curtis brother. Rumors have been thrown around and giggles on how cute he is.

Soda sighed and stomped up the steps.

"You too Pony, you got school in the mornin." Darry said, his tone suddenly soft. Pony sighed and shot me a smile before walking up the stairs.

"I better get goin. Steve, you hitching a ride?" A boy with complicated swirls in his hair asked.

"Yeah." Another boy replied. This house was like a factory of greasers, just spitting them out.

"I'm coming too, bye y/n. Let me know if you need anything." Dally smirked as him and the 2 other boys walked out.

Johnny pulled off his shoes and cuddled up on the recliner and Darry bid us 2 goodnight before walking down the hall.

I pulled off my shoes and laid on the sofa, staring at the ceiling.

My eyes slowly closed as I drifted off on the Curtises couch in the same room as some strange boy I had just met.
