"Um, Alissa, I think there's been a mixup." I tried to whisper to her.
"What do you mean Charli?"
"My roommate, he's, um, well he's a he." My eyes going wider.
"That won't be a problem, will it?" Alissa asked me winking at the end.
"Is this normal here?" Alissa laughed and took my hand.
"Come with me." She led me to a room down the hall.
"Room 113. Who lives here?" She opened the door smiling at me.
"I do." There was a boy sitting on the bed closest to the window. "Charli this is my roommate Amir. Mir, this is Charli. She's new." Amir stood up and shook my hand.
"Welcome to Westfield," Amir said as Alissa sat on his bed.
"Thanks, it's, um, weird here", I said smiling at him.
"Not used to boys and girls being roommates, huh?"
"No, not really."
"Come on, I'll introduce to some of our friends," Still holding my hand Amir led me out of his and Alissa's room and down the hall; Alissa stayed in the room. He knocked on the door and received no response. Opening it he entered and laughed. A tan boy sat on a bed violenting pointing a camouflage controller toward his television screen. A mocha skin-colored girl sat next to him with a teal controller, laughing at him. She noticed the presence of two people and hit the boy next to her.
"Chris, we have company!" 'Chris' paused the game and turned toward us.
"Mir, who's this?" 'Chris' said.
"Chris this is Charli. She's new and she's gonna be bunking with Tristan."
"Hey Charli, I'm Chris and this is Tessa."
"But you can call me Tess."
"Nice to meet you both."
"Nice to meet you too. Word of advice: be careful around Tristan. He tries to score with every girl in this place," I awkwardly smiled, not ready to let them know I'd rather be with Alissa than Tristan. Being a lesbian is going to be interesting here.
"Thanks. Do you think maybe you guys could show me around? I wanna kind of get used to place before classes on Monday."
"Sure, we can take you - let me just put on some shoes," Tessa said slipping on pink boots and turning off the game she and Chris were playing. We all soon exited the dorm building and began the tour. First, we went to the science and math building and I discovered that I will have Biology with Chris and Tessa and Pre-Calculus with Tessa and Amir. We went to the language building and I'm going to have French with Amir. In the History and English building, I learned that I will have both History and English with all three of them. The library building is where we spend free period, or we could go to our dorms as long as we keep track of time and the dining center is next to our dorms. Chris told me that Alissa will be in my math and English and Tristan is in my Bio and English, meaning all five of them will be with me in English. By the time we got back to the dorms, it was dinner time.
"Thanks so much, you guys, for showing me around. It means a lot." We were standing in front of my room.
"It was our pleasure. Wanna come eat dinner with us?"
"Sure, I would love that. Should we invite Alissa and Tristan?"
"I'm sure Alissa would love to join us. Tristan, however, he loves to be in his own little world."
"We should still ask him right?" I didn't wait to hear an answer as I entered my bedroom. Tristan was his bed making out with some girl. I quickly closed the door and turned back towards my new friends. Chris chuckled and shook his head.
"We told you Charli."
"You did. You really did." I shook my head rapidly trying to burn the image out of my head. We went to Amir's room to grab Alissa and headed to the dining center. It was really nice to sit, eat, talk and laugh with them. I finally feel as though someone might like me. I finally feel as though I might actually have friends. I finally felt as though I might actually belong.
