"Charli wake up!" I felt myself being prodded in the side. Sitting up, I saw Tristan standing over me. This is beginning to piss me off.
"What do you want?"
"You're gonna be late for class." I looked at my clock and noticed I had fifteen minutes until my first class started. I didn't feel like going so I just groaned and rolled over.
"Not going, but thanks I guess."
"Why aren't you going?" He asked sitting down. Why the hell is he sitting down?
"Because I just don't want to."
"Why?"
"Tristan, you're not my dad - you don't need to be so involved now. Now let me go back to sleep." I felt him sigh and stand up. I heard his footsteps trail back to his bed but I didn't hear his bed sink - meaning he didn't get into it. What was he doing? Watching me? Plotting my demise? I got out of my bed and went to brush my teeth. When I returned he was still in the same spot near his bed. I climbed back into my bed and covered my head.
"I ended it." He said in a voice barely above a whisper.
"What?" My voice small - me afraid to even breathe.
"I'm done messing with Briana."
"Why?"
"I thought you would be happy?" I could hear the confusion in the voice.
"I am - I'm not. I don't know! But that still doesn't answer the question."
"I guess - I'm changing...growth...you know. That bullshit."
"No seriously?"
"Um, I've never had a front-row seat to the turmoil my actions can cause to people. Seeing you that day in the shower I wasn't sure what was going on but I felt bad anyway. Then when you told me what you told me the other day - I've never heard that word before." My face contorted when he said this and I pushed my comforter off of me. He seemed to be opening up - I was finding out more about him in twenty seconds than the three months we had been living together. Turning to look at him, I noticed his eyes were puffy. Why was he crying?
"Tristan?" I stood up and went to him. "What's wrong?" We stood in comfortable silence for a few minutes before he looked at me.
"Can I hug you?" He asked avoiding my face once again. I tensed, hoping he wouldn't notice.
"Sure." He embraced me with his huge ass torso. Still holding on to me he continued.
"I saw how much it was hurting you - seeing your arms - I've never been confronted with what my actions can do to people. I'm truly sorry Charli."
"Tristan are you okay? What did you mean by you never heard that word before? What did I say?"
"That you loved her."
"What do you mean you've never heard it? Your parents -"
"I don't know them."
"Your sister..."
"Yeah we love each other but it's not the same."
"What happened to your parents?"
"Died when I was a baby," I admit it, I felt sorry for him. But that was no reason to act the way he did.
"What happened?"
"They killed each other."
"Huh?"
"Found out they were cheating on each other - shot and killed each other a couple of months after I was born. My sister says it was like something out of a movie."
