Chapter 10 - You're an Idiot
My mind constantly replayed of what went down the last time I visited the coffee shop with Alex. It was sketched into my mind, leaving me to wander what on Earth had Alex done to make this so called Caleb as mad as he was.
"Beat it." Alex grimly snarled, standing up with his fist to his side - ready for anything.
"What are you gonna do about it?" Caleb snickered. Looking down at me, he grinned evilly.
Alex kept his lips sealed, but his face angered with red, his body shivering with rage.
"Alex, have you told the next ragdoll of yours, your past?" Caleb was still not breaking eye contact. I hastily stood up, and frantically grabbed my school papers.
Caleb reached out for me, but before he could lay a finger on me, Alex smacked his hand. "Don't you fucking dare." He growled. His eyes filled with fury.
A few people had turned around as the scene that played out in front of me unraveled and grew. I needed to do something, but just didn't know what. My mind wandered as to what I could do to help in this hopeless case.
"What are you going to do about, Alex? Are you going to make a scene about it in a coffee shop?" Caleb's voice was baby like, enticing Alex clearly.
Alex's face scrunched up, plainly showing that anger was boiling in his veins. I could tell he was trying his best to manage his actions with me being present, but I knew it wasn't going to be long until he unleashed something.
"I wonder what my sister-" Before Caleb could speak any further, a fist connected to his face, leaving a horrendous crackling noise.
Gasps and whisperings fled out of the bystanders' mouths when Alex tumbled on Caleb to the ground, throwing punches left from right.
I was glued to the floor, not being able to move an inch as I watched Alex being pulled away from employees and by standers.
"Scram before I call the cops!" The manger gripped Alex's shirt, pulling him up on his feet.
Alex groaned as he held his stomach with his nose gushing out blood. I glanced at him, making the slightest bit of eye contact for merely just a second. He was then immediately pushed through the crowd of the shop and outside. I scrambled behind him as quickly as possible. He was powering through the busy sidewalk, leaving me in the dust as I tried to catch up with him.
As I maneuvered through the crowded area, trying to keep my eyes on Alex as he came more distant. My mind couldn't stop thinking of what happened. From Alex's fist in Caleb's face to Caleb enticing something about his own sister? Why would Alex be so furious of what Caleb was about to say about his sister?
Before I knew it, I caught up to Alex at his car. He paced back and forth in front of me, pushing his hair back with his hand. He focused his eyes on the ground.
"Fuck, Laila!" He hissed unexpectedly.
"Wh-what did I do?" My voice came off shaky and so quiet that for a second I didn't think he heard me when he didn't respond. I took notice of Alex's knuckles, cuts had sprung open. His hands still held in tight fists. "Can you tell me-"
He cut me off rudely. "Get in the damn car. I knew you were a mistake."
Instantly, I obeyed, and was on the urge to cry. I didn't do anything wrong and yet now I was a mistake? His mood swings were far from being able to be comprehended, making him the mistake in my life.
