Repeating Apologies – Of Mice & Men
“Scarred you for life, please come back to me, down on my knees, repeating apologies...back on mistakes I've made, please come home to me, I'll show you truth, I'm all for you.”
Danielle turned around as Austin was storming forward. She shielded Trace and pushed him away. This would get really ugly really quick if she didn't do something.
“Trace, leave.” She said to him.
“No, let him face me.” His voice turned very harsh and aggressive.
“Trace!” She spun around and pushed him again. He flinched. “Leave!”
As Trace jumped over the barricade by the buses and sprinted off, Austin was about to sprint right after him. Danielle grabbed his arm and pulled him back with all her strength. He spun around. He never looked so unhappy to see her.
“Are you serious, Danielle?!” He started screaming.
“It's fine! Don't you see him leaving?”
“Yeah, okay. Because you gave him exactly what he wanted, didn't you!”
“Don't even try to start this shit with me.” She angrily stormed toward her bus's door.
“Why would you do that! Him! Of all people!” Austin was getting upset now. His rage subsided into sadness. He looked like he was going to cry any minute. “I've done so much to save you from that jackass! I've done so much to protect you! I showed you love where he didn't because of how much he hurt you and how much he brought you down!”
“And where were you after your set when I really needed you?” Danielle shouted. “Shoving your tongue down a trashy band girl's throat in the back of your bus!”
“You were pissing me off!”
“Yeah, ditto!”
They both became silent and caught their breath. Austin blinked back tears. He sniffled and shook his head, looking away from her. “I guess I have no one to blame but myself.” He met her eyes. He looked like he was choking. “I never told you the whole truth.” Danielle raised a curious eyebrow. “I hooked up with three girls on my last tour. I didn't sleep with any of them though. I really only slept with one girl on this tour...actually, now it's two.”
Danielle's eyes filled with tears. She squeezed her eyes shut and let out a loud sob. Austin attempted to pull her into his arms but she pushed him away and leaned against her bus, crying.
Austin cheated on her. And he lied about it.
“Dani...I swear that's the only thing I've ever hidden from you.”
“You promised!” She screeched, punching him repeatedly with every other word she spoke. “You promised you would never hide anything from me on purpose!”
Austin felt his heart breaking the more he watched her cry. She punched the side of her bus and fell to the ground, burying her head between her knees and crying even more. Austin crouched in front of her and touched her elbow. She jerked up and slapped his hand.
“Get off me.” Her voice was snide and unpleasant.
“Come on, get up.” He gingerly grabbed her arms and she fought him but he eventually got her to stand up even though she was thrashing around and tried hard to kick and punch him. “Danielle! Stop!” He hugged her waist and squeezed her tight enough so she could barely fight against him.
She sobbed into his shoulder but her entire body was stiff. He pet her hair and tried so hard to get her to stop crying. “Can we go on your bus?” He asked quietly.
“I don't want to be near you.” She snapped through her shaking, uneven voice, still attempting to push him off her. “I trusted you not to ever hurt me.”
“I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. If I wasn't sorry I would never have told you...”
“You're an asshole.” She said through her sobs once more. “Let. Me. Go!”
“I know I'm an asshole. I know. But I won't let you go, ever. I will always be here for you. I will never cheat on you again. Danielle, please stop fighting me.”
“Austin Carlile, let me go right now!”
Hesitantly, Austin's arms went slack and she pushed him away. He tripped and supported his hand on the bus next to him to keep his balance. Danielle watched through foggy eyes as he stared at her with his own tears streaming down his face.
“Andrew was right.” She said, her sobs finally subsiding. “You always just want the focus to be on you. The perfect Austin Carlile who saves countless lives and eats teenage girls' hearts for breakfast.”
Austin continued to stare, too upset to know how to respond to that.
“And I'm one of the girls who fell for it. And you didn't just eat my heart, you completely devoured it.” Austin looked down in shame. “This was a horrible idea to try again and I wish I knew that sooner. Now I remember why it all ended in the first place.”
As she stormed through her bus door, she heard Austin calling after her but she slammed the door shut and locked it before he could stop her. She looked over and saw her entire band staring at her with blank stares.
They all must have hated her now.
Sniffling and slowly walking into the front room, the only person she met eye contact with was Andrew. “Sorry I didn't listen to you sooner.”
Without another word, she stormed into the bunk hall and closed the door behind her. Then, she went straight to her bunk and started doing what she thought she would never do in the middle of a tour—packing.
A/N: Recently, I've tried to make Danielle a little more independently “sexy” in a way. I've just tried to not have her cry as much. But in this one, she has a mental breakdown. But I mean...if my boyfriend told me he's hooked up with three girls and had sex with two others, I think I'd have a mental breakdown similar—but not as dramatic—to Dani's. Hope you guys liked this chapter even though it was kinda short! I've got more ideas in the works and I hope you like it c: don't forget to review! xo
