Mouth Shut – The Veronicas
“I kept my mouth shut from the start. I guess I left you in the dark. You thought you knew me but you don't. You say you love me but you won't, when you find out who I am...Now we're in this way too far and I'm about to break your heart, tear everything we had apart. 'Cause I'm feeling lost when I'm in your arms, the reasons are gone for why I was holding onto you. I tried so hard to be the one. I don't like who I've become...won't keep my mouth shut anymore.”
Danielle rushed across the parking lot with her coffee in hand. Crew members opened the back door for her and she thanked them with a smile, walking in quickly. She hurried into her band's dressing room, taking off her jacket, scarf, and sweatshirt.
She checked herself in the mirror, bed head hair falling loosely over her shoulders, make-up from last night still on her face. Should she risk it? She took a huge gulp of her coffee, reaching into her backpack for baby wipes to remove the excess make-up under her eyes. Of course she had to do it, she had to make sure her reputation wasn't ruined.
Why did she still care so much?
Maybe because she just didn't want her long time enemy knowing things she shouldn't know. It was early, about eight in the morning, and she was determined to make sure Rachel was out of Pierce The Veil's bus before anyone else woke up. It occurred to her last night while Austin was dead asleep next to her that Vic has a mouth when he's drunk. And he doesn't know how to keep some things to himself sometimes.
She pulled her sweatshirt over her head and grabbed her coffee, heading back outside. She knocked loudly on Pierce The Veil's bus door. She was about to knock again when one of the crew members answered. He let her on board and she apologized for being loud and hurried toward the bunks.
She ripped open Vic's curtain to find him sound asleep. By himself. She smacked his arm and he twitched awake, blinking quickly while he stared at her.
“Dani, what are you doing?” He asked in a cranky tired voice she recognized all too well.
“Where's Rachel?”
He stretched and ran a hand over his face, clutching his pillow. “She left earlier, said something about Jake being mad or something.” Danielle rolled her eyes, hitting Vic again to keep him awake. “Can you fucking stop?” He said agitatedly into his pillow.
“I can tell you're hungover, Vic.”
“Yes, exactly.” He pulled his eyebrows together. “So can I sleep off this pounding headache and nausea before I vomit on you?”
“Not until you tell me about what happened after I left last night.”
Vic groaned, turning his head away from her. “Nothing, Dani.”
“Vic!” She slapped him again. He sat up, pointing a finger at her with an angry look on his face. “Danielle, I don't know how early in the morning it is but it's too early for you to be overreacting just a little bit.”
“I'm not overreacting. I need to know if you were drunk enough to say something stupid to Rachel.”
Vic shook his head, fluffing his pillow and lying back down. “Dani, regardless of how drunk I was, I wouldn't do that to you.”
Danielle stared him down, unconvinced. “Are you sure?”
“Yes, Danielle.” Vic stared her in the eyes, unblinking. “I'm sure.”
.&.
“See? I told you not to worry about it.” Austin said, walking down the hall with Danielle later that night in the venue. He smiled, holding her hand. “She's got nothing on you.”
