"Tell them something is coming, there's blood in the water."

Chapter seven

W A R N I N G

Anakin hated himself more and more, the closer he got to his apartment. He saw nothing of his surroundings, as the events of earlier played in his mind on repeat. His shame and fear held him, hostage, inside his mind. It was impossible to pay attention to the countless faces, who greeted him in the hallway.

He considered every opportunity, every scenario in his head. Nicole would not be happy to see him again.

He had no idea how to apologize to her. He had a lot of trouble finding a reasonable explanation for his irrational actions. His thoughts were so seduced by his weaknesses and the idea of leaning into her almost reaching her lips...

He had no idea, where it had come from.

The only reason his imagination could reach was adrenaline. He was used to relying on his intuition in battle situations, and he was bold enough to go for it.

But the truth was that it hadn't felt the same. Instead, it almost felt as if the force itself had reached out to him, telling him he had to come closer.

He must have lost his mind.

...

Anakin took a few deep breaths before entering the lion's den. The girl perked her head up from the couch to identify the intruder. As Anakin stepped inside, she turned her attention back to a slim stream of water which circled her right hand playfully.

Anakin lowered his gaze in embarrassment, as he heard the door shut behind him.

"Obi-wan sent me." No response came.

"He gave me strict orders to get a blood sample from you. So, I grabbed a needle on my way here, and - are you listening to me?"

He couldn't tell, whether she was just pretending or actually didn't listen to a word, he said. She continued playing with her water, which was already starting to get on his nerves...

"Look, I'm sorry... about earlier. I have grown familiar with my temper, and I try to contain it, I really do."

He saw the water flow from her fingertips, down to her wrist. It circled there a few times and traveled further up her arm. As fascinating as it was, her coldness almost made him shiver.

Anakin sighed and licked his lips, as he realized this might be even harder than he thought.

"I apologize. I... I lost control, which seems to happen quite often these days."

The water flowed back down to her fingers and made an elegant leap towards her left hand, which it swirled.

This was rare. An embarrassed Anakin Skywalker, apologizing. He even took the blame upon himself for something that clearly, from his point of view, wasn't his to take. Yet, she had no mercy.

Anakin threw his head to the side, frustrated, as he grunted.

"What do you want me to say, Nicole?"

The words came out slightly more aggressive than he had intended. He thought that an apology would've been enough, at least to soften her. He had already apologized twice, and she was as cold as the knife she held to his neck this morning. He lost more and more patience, by each second he had to watch her while she couldn't care less.
