Chapter five

S T R A N G E

In the morning Nicole woke up after a long and heavy night's sleep, free of terrifying nightmares. She sat up on her bed, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. Then she stood on wobbling legs and walked over to the other side of the room, to grab her clothes.

...

As Nicole entered the main room she saw that breakfast was served on the dinner table. Obi-wan had sat down and looked like he had been eating for a while. He looked up as she came into his sight.

"Goodmorning."

"Goodmorning, Obi-wan" Three plates had been set on the table so Nicole took the spot opposite of him.

"Do you mind if I...?" She gestured towards the food.

Obi-wan shook his head.

"No, no please do. We wouldn't want you to starve." Nicole was so grateful for his kindness. He had treated her so well, ever since she stood with shaking legs on top of the Great Wall, he had been kind to her. She felt safe in his company, like the horrors of the extinction of her people, couldn't reach her.

As Nicole reached across the table, Obi-wan spoke again, but this time not to her.

"Ah, there you are! Did you sleep well?" Nicole turned her head, to look behind her. She saw a very sleepy, and grumpy-looking padawan walk into the main room, with morning hair. Anakin did nothing but shoot his master a glare, and walked to the chair next to Nicole, without a word. When he was a second away from slipping into the seat, his eyes landed on Nicole.

"You..." Nicole turned her head to look at him, as if she was a kid caught stealing cookies. His brows furrowed, Nicole could tell there was chaos on the other side of his gorgeous eyes.

"Hi, my name is Nicole Dice." She said and reached out her hand for him to shake it. He never acknowledged the movement, just kept staring at her. Then his head turned to Obi-wan.

"You brought her here?" He asked, voice instantly free of rage and grudges, too distracted to remember that he was mad at him. Nicole sat there, with her arm stretched out, blinking. She withdrawed her gesture, since it didn't look like he was going to acknowledge her, anytime soon.

'Okay...'

"Yes, I did Anakin." The padawan looked from his master back to Nicole again, less unfriendly. More like he was weighing and calculating her, this new girl in his shared apartment.

'He'll better make a good impression now, if I am to like this guy .' Nicole thought quietly to herself. Anakin's eyes finally landed on her's after a protracted tour down her body. It made Nicole torn between looking confident for her pride's sake, and running away to hide in a rabbit hole.

Nicole sat with her hands in her lap, patiently waiting, watching him carefully. When Anakin seemed to have processed the thought of her, here in his apartment and not half dead, Nicole smiled genuily.

"Wanna try again?" She reached out her hand once again, her eyes never leaving Anakin's. His ocean blue pair of eyes looked deep into her kind and friendly ones, and thus, convincing him to shake her hand.
