"katie walk up!" I hear my mom yell from the hallway outside my room.
it was a typical Wednesday morning and I had to get ready for school. I rolled over to my nightstand and picked up my phone that was on the charger from the night before. I looked over the time and my notifications that said it was 6:35 which meant I had around an hour and a half to get up and get ready. I saw messages from my friends reminding me that we had our sleepover tonight in honor of competition that we had coming up. The competition was in LA and our studio was in Maryland which meant that we would have to leave to go to the airport tomorrow morning and rent a studio that afternoon to practice in. Since we were leaving tomorrow morning that meant that we wouldn't have school on Thursday and Friday which we were all excited about. I lay in bed for about five more minutes and then finally decided to get up going over to my dresser I pull out a pair of lululemon leggings with pockets on the side and a white shirt with a black halter bralette. I grab my phone and my clothes and make my way into my bathroom to brush my teeth wash my face and put on my clothes and makeup.

"bye mom love you!" I yell into my house as I close the door to my three story home. My best friend Kaylee and her mom were driving me to school today and then my mom would pick us up around lunch time and we would leave school for the day. I opened the door to the backseat and smiled as my friend Elisabeth greeted me with bright eyes "hey katie." She says as I climb into the backseat and sit my mustard yellow backpack on the floor. I smile and reply back with a "hey" to Elisabeth, Kaylee, and her mom.
Kaylee reaches over in the front seat and turns the radio up so the song "bad at love" by Halsey blast through the car. Kaylees mom pulls into the McDonald's drive thru line and asks us all what we want to eat, I reply with a strawberry smoothie and two hash browns. Her moms orders the food while we all scroll through are social media's and wait for the order to come. I send my messages to my streaks and then go to Instagram were I come across the most nerve racking news ever. As kaylees mom pulls up to the next window I scream at the top of my lungs earning concerned and frightening looks for everyone in the car and the man at the window handing us our food. I stutter over my words and try to figure out a way to explain what I saw until Elisabeth grabs the phone from me and read the caption of the picture aloud "aldc ready for the first competition of our season we will be competing at the Energy Dance Competition right here in LA if you want to see us there all you have to do is purchase tickets which will be linked in our bio or come to the competition in hopes of seeing us around the building❤️" all of us look at each other with horrid faces. Not only were were we traveling all the way across the world to compete at a competition in LA but now we were going up against the girls from ALDC. I tune out as kaylee and Elisabeth talk about getting pictures with the girls at the competition and focus on my solo. I was in the pre teen category which meant I would obviously have as solo against one of the elite dancers and I was so nervous. I go over the motions in my head and silently sing the words to myself until I finally feel better about it. After all the excitement and nervousness dies down from the unexpected news we all continue our way to school and eat our food while listening to music coming from the radio
