Background:
My name is Ruby Black, I was bless by Erzulie to become the most powerful voodoo queen. My aunt was the one to ask Erzulie to bless me. My grandma was not happy about it. I live with my grandma because my mother left me after I was born. My only friend is Maria and that's because my grandma worked for Maria's family. No one but my grandma knows that I can talk to spirits. I don't like it sometimes but other times they like to help me when I need it.
Monologue:
Why can't they just leave me alone. Can't they understand I can't do what they ask. They make me look like a freak in the world. Their world is so confusing. It's so hard to understand why I was blessed. My aunt said it was for my protection. Erzulie says I'm to help people both in my world and their world but I don't want to believe it. Maria, Maria she doesn't care about me she laughs at me like everyone else that meets me. What I don't get is why must everyone make fun of me. Maria should be my best friend but she can't understand what is going on in the shadows of the dark.
