After my little encounter of the third kind last night, I was a bit shaken. Boyd explained what Derek was... what he was... and that maybe I could be like them too. Scott kept an eye on me all day at school, ill be honest, it was creepy. Boyd texted me and asked if I would meet him at the old bus depo immediately. I agreed for whatever reason and took off in my car. I pulled in and he was waiting for me. He brought me inside where Isaac and Erica were training with Derek. He yelled at them for being predictable and then Erica kissed him. He threw her off but I still felt jealous. Boyd gave me an odd look but shrugged it off. Derek looked up at me and smiled. His smile made my heart skip a beat. Boyd elbowed me and chuckled.
"I told Derek about your family um predicament and stuff about you and he thinks you'd be a good fit for us," Vernon said to me. The predicament he spoke about was how my mom was dead and my father is a drunk that's never home. Isaac and Erica went away to rest up.
"Do you want to be like us?" Derek asked.
"What is... like you?" I questioned.
"Werewolves.... better in every way. faster, stronger, heightened senses," he smirked.
"You can even hear people's heartbeats and stuff," Boyd chuckled at me. So he must know I like Derek.... Derek must know too then. I felt a blush creep onto my cheeks.
"But there is one thing.. there are hunters.... very dangerous," Derek warned me.
"We can be partners in crime," Boyd laughed. I thought for a moment. Maybe this was my chance to be something more than ordinary.
"I think it's a great idea," I smiled. Derek returned my smile and stepped forward. My heartbeat did that skip thing again as he did.
"This may hurt a bit," he sighed before biting into my arm. I yelped in pain but it faded quickly. I felt different instantly. I could hear things, smell things, see things differently. I could hear Boyd's heartbeat just like he said I'd be able to.
"How do you feel?" he asked.
"Different... but better," I smiled. I felt a little bad considering Erica got all hot but I still looked like me. Boyd walked off to join the pack and Derek frowned at me. "What?"
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"Nothing," I lied. He could tell based off of my heartbeat so I sighed in defeat.
"Erica changed completely, I didn't,"
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"I mean, she's hot and I'm not," I mumbled. Derek let out a laugh.
"Maybe it only changes people who's looks need improving and maybe you don't," he smiled. My heartbeat quickened. Fuck.....
"Maybe," I said in a barely audible voice.
"Well um anyway, you start training tomorrow, full moon is next week. see you later," he said. I waved goodbye and headed back home. My father was passed out on the couch so I put a blanket over him and went to my room. I didn't want to sleep, whenever I close my eyes I have nightmares. I put in my headphones and turned them all the way up. I sang along to my music until I did drift asleep. I don't know how long I was out but I was shaken awake by a dark figure. I screamed and rolled from my bed. I tore the headphones out and flipped my light on. Derek stood in front of me in a defensive position.
"What the hell?!" I screamed.
"You um... I uh.... why do you listen to your music so loud? you have super hearing now," he stuttered.
"Why are you in my room?" I asked calming down a bit.
"I heard you screaming," he sighed.
"Um how?"
"You're in my pack now, we have a special connection, I knew you were in trouble but I guess it was a nightmare," he answered. I sat on my bed.
"Don't worry about when I'm screaming at night from nightmares, it happens a lot," I sighed.
"What are they about?" he questioned. I looked down at my hands.
"Usually my mom.. dying in front of me. Or something about me dying... sick stuff," I started to cry. He sat next to me and wiped the tears away with his thumb.
"I'm going to keep you safe," he whispered in my ear. And with that I was able to fall into a peaceful sleep.
