Althea had never looked forward to lunch time. She usually skipped it in exchange for paperwork. Today was different though. Jade was coming over and she is excited to see her again. Even Batchi could sense it. Her best friend had that expectant grin on her face she had been trying to ignore since she came in.
"So..." she started.
"What is it, Batch?"
"How did the meeting with the parents go?" Batchi asked while handing over a document she needed to sign.
"It was... good, I guess. Better than expected," Althea answered without looking at her. She knows she plans on pushing for the embarrassing details she has no intention of sharing. "How did you know I met Jade's parents?"
"Best friends' gossip central," she answered simply.
"What?"
"My girlfriend talks to your girlfriend's best friend."
"Since when?"
She didn't know that the three of them had already met. She saw Batchi freeze for a moment.
"Since uh... That one time, remember? When you were away and we helped you with that surprise for Jade?"
"Oh." She smiled remembering that time. Jade had been acting a bit distant which worried her. She later found out the reason. A tagged photo of her and a potential business partner during a dinner meeting. The red-head may have not so subtly flirted with her, but she made it clear that she wasn't interested. "Wow. They seem to have hit it off."
"Haha. Yeah. Surprising, isn't it?"
"Yeah."
There was something suspicious about the sigh of relief she heard but she didn't ask.
"That reminds me, I owe you guys for helping me with that."
"You can return the favor by spilling all the juicy details. Starting with what happened after Jade's mom caught you two in bed and---- aw! Hey, stop!" Batchi's laugh got louder when she repeatedly slapped her arm with the folder in her hand.
"So that's why you personally came over. You're part of the best friends' gossip central."
"Come on. Have mercy and share a little. Don't you love me no more?" She begged, giving her the puppy eyes.
"Get back to work," she handed the folder and gave her best friend one last playful swat before going back to her desk.
"You're being hurtful. When your girlfriend comes over I'm going to tell on you," she pouted as turned around and walked to the door.
She just shook her head and smiled at Batchi's dramatics.
"She's not my girlfriend yet," she mumbled, keeping her eyes on the computer screen. Unfortunately for her, her best friend must have the hearing of a bat because she quickly turned around and stared at her with a mix of utter surprise and disbelief.
"What do you mean not yet?"
"I mean I'm still working on it."
Batchi's mouth went agape.
"Wha... You're kidding me."
Althea only glared at her, telling her she wasn't joking.
"Ohoho..." She now sat on the chair on the other side of her with her elbow resting on her table.
"Don't start, Batch," she warned.
"No way. Wow."
Did she listen? Of course not. She is her best friend after all. She's going to push for it.
