Chapter 6
With a sly smile, he stepped closer to me. I saw the look in his eyes, and immediately wished that a hole would suddenly open in the floor and swallow me whole. Because his eyes were the eyes of a predator, waiting to pounce on its prey.
So I shut up and motioned for him to continue.
"Well, thank you for being so... cooperative! I didn't think you'd be so willing to help. I would hate to hurt such a pretty girl like you," he winked creepily, and I shuddered "but I do what I have to do. So if you even THINK about running away, I will hurt you. Got it?"
"Okay seriously, how are you going to hurt me if I'm already dead? That was a pretty nice speech you made right there, with the threats and everything but I'm DEAD," I sighed in frustration. "I don't think there's more hurt than that."
Whoa... How had I accepted death so easily? Although I'm tough, this was beyond scary. Even I should be freaked out right now. I shrugged. Eh. I was bound to go insane one day. Maybe today was The Day my friends had jokingly predicted would come, the one where I would finally 'lose it completely' as they liked to call it. Too bad they weren't here to witness it. Instead, I was stuck with this psycho, and I might as well suck it up and live with it.
I calmly raised my hand, like I was a nice little seven year old girl in school. James stared at me weirdly before sighing and asking, "Yes, Emma?"
"I have a quest- Whoa. How do you know my name? Have you been stalking me?" I narrowed my eyes in suspicion.
He rolled his and said, "No. I was just watching you."
"You call that not stalking!? What the crap is actual stalking to you then?" I asked. I paused. "Wait. Scratch that. I don't think I want to know."
He smirked. There was an awkward silence. "Emma," he snapped. "Your question."
I frowned in confusion before realization dawned on me. "Oh, right, oops, my bad. I tend to be really forgetful sometimes and-"
"THE QUESTION." he asked in exasperation.
"Right. Sorry. Actually, I have a LOT of questions do you mind because I'm really confused and-"
"JUST GET TO THE POINT ALREADY OR SO HELP ME I'LL KILL YOU RIGHT HERE AND NOW."
"Again with the death threats, huh?" He glowered at me. "Okay! Geez," I muttered. I heard him take a couple of calming breaths and I smirked to myself. "Okay, here goes. Where am I? Who are you? How am I supposed to help you? Where's my family? How am I here even though technically, I'm dead? How long have you been dead? What the frick do you mean you've been watching me? I don't care what you say, that's really stalkerish. What's in it for me if I help you? 'Cause if you're going to come back to life or whatever it is I'm helping you with, I don't wanna be stuck here by myself. As weird and creepy and scary as you are, your company is better than none at all." I stopped so I could breathe. "So yeah. Those are my questions."
He stared at me like I'd suddenly sprouted seven heads and a tail.
