Chapter 3
Then I noticed the walls seemed to be caving in. I turned toward the door. It had mysteriously disappeared again. I panicked. The room was getting smaller and smaller. I squeezed my eyes shut; when I opened them again, I wasn't in that room anymore. I had reappeared in the hallway, shocked and dizzy. There were three doors left. Should I open them? I was scared of what I might find behind them. If I didn't, I had a feeling I would be stuck here, with the memories of the deaths of my parents and my cousin. So that left me with only one choice. I opened the first door.
It was a giant cave-like library. Rows and rows of bookcases filled the room. It was really dark, but there was enough light to see a creepy shadow, and a stained white glove pulling away, leaving a red trace on the bookcase, left there for me to find... blood.
I followed the traces of red, and walked deeper into the library, right into a puddle of blood. I looked up and saw a figure.
I was facing his back. It was kneeling over what looked like a body. I backed away, my eyes widening, hoping they wouldn't see me. But they did.
"I know you're there," the figure said, his voice echoing.
It was definitely a male voice with a hint of an accent I couldn't place. I froze. How could he have known I was there? I don't remember making any noise, and here, in what felt like the center of the library, lit only by a few flickering candles placed on the walls seemingly at random, you could only see a vague outline of anything in the room. I tried walking backwards, but my back hit a bookcase, and a book fell to the floor making a sound as loud as a gunshot. I flinched.
There was no way I could get away now.
