Hunger Games

Chapter One

I duck under the electric fence surrounding District 13 and into the woods. I have known this hole in the fence since I can remember. My mother, Katniss Everdeen, told me about this when I was 15. I walk to the place where me and Gade have met since we first met each other. The day we met was a warm but windy spring day a few years after all the districts got destroyed. Our district was the only one they could rebuild. I was walking into the forest and was about to shoot an arrow to kill a deer. I heard a bush rustle behind me and I was surprised so it ruined my shot. "Who is that?" I called out into the now quiet woods. I heard laughter coming from somewhere near me. "Look behind you" he said. So I turned around and saw Gade. "What's your name?" He asked.
"Alaya"
"Layla?"
"No!Alaya!"
"Oh. Hi." He said to me. "I'm Gade, by the way"
And that's the shorter version of how I met him. I notice a figure near where we meet. As I walk closer, I realise it's Gade waiting there as usual." Hey Layla!" He says excitedly. I swat at him playfully. "You know I'm called Alaya!" I say. I keep feeling I'm forgetting something. "Oh yeah! Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds-'he says with exaggeration while throwing a berry in the air for me to catch in my mouth, "Be ever in your favour!" I say with equal exaggeration. It's the 8Oth Hunger Games. My mom and dad won the 74th Hunger Games. "Wonder who they'll pick this year." I say with a dreamy look in my eye. I'm sixteen now and I still haven't been picked for the Hunger Games. Hopefully, I will be picked this time. I wanna know what it's like to be a winner!
