Lost someone

My phone suddenly rings. The noise seems twice as loud in the almost empty room.

We immediately stop and while still holding on to each other, I take the call. It's from Chanyeol.

"Yeah, Chanyeol oppa?" I say, my voice rough. As soon as Kai hears the name, he pulls me closer as if that is possible. 

"Hmm... Y/N" He says, softly. His voice reflects his confusion and tension.

"What happened? Something serious?" I ask. If Chanyeol is not loud then something is seriously wrong or it's April fools.

The latter is definitely not an option, so I am guessing the first option is true.

"Y/N... something happened." He says. I can imagine him shivering while saying this because of his voice.

"Yeah. I guessed that. What happened?" I ask, more serious this time.

Kai looks at me with a confused look and leans towards me such that his ear is next to the phone.

"I don't think you will take the news well. Sit down somewhere if you're standing." He says from the other end.

Kai immediately lifts me up and sits down on a chair nearby. I am now on his lap, straddling him.

"I am sitting down. Now, what's it?" I ask. Kai once again takes his previous position next to my phone.

"Uhm. I don't know how to break the news to you." Chanyeol says.

"Just say it already!" I almost shout at my phone.

"That ... it's about Suho." He says.

"What happened to Suho oppa?" I ask, sitting straight suddenly.

"Suho got into an accident." He says quietly.

"IS HE OKAY? WHAT HAPPENED? IS HE SAFE?" I scream at the phone.

"About that. He ... He .... I can't say it." I hear Chanyeol's sobs.

"What happened? Why are you crying?" I ask, getting more and more confused by the second.

"He fell down while hiking. The rope which held him was weak. He was the last one." Chanyeol manages to say.

"WHAT? WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM? HOW IS HE?" I shout again. I start to get tense. Kai slowly pats my back.

"He didn't make it. I am sorry I couldn't help him." Chanyeol finally says. Chanyeol's sobs get louder. A thud is heard on the other side.

I go blank. My mind goes completely blank. Kai looks at me the second Chanyeol says the news. His eyes soft and full of sincere love.

I open my mouth and close it. I grab my hair with my hands and my phone falls down.

The sound of breaking glass is heard. My eyes fill up with tears. I start crying into Kai's neck, I hold on his chest as if my life depends on it.

Kai's hands envelope me and provides me a comfortable warmth. His hug is soft and loving.

My mind drifts off to the beautiful smile of my brother. His kind lines that appeared when he laughs. His warm hugs.

His kind actions. His loving voice. His love. His everything. His every smile and laugh starts haunting me.

I cry like there is no tomorrow. My eyes closed and my face buried in Kai's neck.

Kai hugs me tighter and kisses the top of my head. "I am so so so sorry." He says, his voice hoarse and cracking. "I don't know what to say." 

I just continue my crying. I think of all the wonderful time I had with my brother. Probably the best brother I could have ever asked for.

My mind floods with memories of the time before he left. He kissed me on my forehead and said that he will be back in no time.

"He said he will come back soon." I say between my sobs. "HE PROMISED TO BE BACK SOON."

Kai continues to pat me and hug me. I sit there screaming out and crying. My mind and body are paralysed.

After about an hour, Kai gets up and lifts me bridal style as I continue to cry into his chest. I cling to him as he takes me to his car and softly put me down on the back seat.

"I'll take you home." He says softly as if I am going to bust any minute.
