Red Thread of Fate: According to this myth, the gods tie an invisible red cord around the little finger of those that are destined to meet one another in a certain situation or help each other in a certain way. The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of place, time, or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break.

Braden has never believed in these myths, even though his teachers taught him about it, his parents met that way, and his best friend, Denis, got his new boyfriend, Alex, because of it. But Braden doesn't have one, never had, and has never seen one; therefore they don't exist. That's just how it is, he says, he doesn't make the rules.

Elijah, on the other hand, is almost the exact opposite. He's in love with the idea that you can know for sure who your soulmate is, and he desperately wants one. He hates that he doesn't have a string. No matter how many people he asks, nobody knows why Elijah doesn't have a string, and he hates it. That's just how it is, they say, they don't make the rules.

"Hey Braden, you wanna go to the boardwalk with me and Alex? I know you just got in that fight with your parents about the, uh, soulmate thing, and that you could use something to take your mind off of it." Denis asked in a call one evening. Braden smiled. Denis always knew how to cheer people up; he was just that type of person. Braden agreed, then hung up and got dressed. He and his parents had gotten into another fight at dinner about the stupid strings again, why couldn't they just admit that they weren't real? He sighed, frustrated as he pulled on his white shirt and walked down the stairs.

"Hey Elijah, I heard that the boardwalk is open now that it's summer. You wanna go? Maybe we'll find our soulmates!" Sub asked over a call that same evening. Sub and Elijah were best friends; both never had met their respective soulmates yet, both for different reasons. Elijah smiled and nodded before realizing that Sub couldn't see him nod. "Yeah, definitely! I would love to see if I have a soulmate." he said happily, then hung up to get ready. He pulled on his black hoodie and slid down the staircase rail downstairs.

(Elijah stop you're gonna get yourself hurt. Anyway, I'm making this whether anyone wants to read it or not. Also, I'm German now apparently. My goal is to name each chapter 'chapter' in a different language. Also numero dos, *Beach Walk intensifies*.)
