"Make sure the safety is off," Hesh was giving me a full safety check in the chopper.
Keegan caught my eye and I rolled mine to signal my annoyance. "Hey, Hesh," Keegan interrupted and Hesh turned to look at him. "Shut up. The girl can handle herself out there."
Hesh opened his mouth to argue, but shut it when he saw Merrick staring at him. Merrick's gaze softened when he looked at me. The hazel-brown-mixed eyes of his made me stare him down.
Next to me, Logan pressed against my shoulder to signal for me to let the stare down go. Looking away from Merrick, I blinked. Suddenly I was in Logan's mind again.
His stare will explain everything later. Logan commented.
Whatever. I replied.
"Coming into the battle zone, sir. Suggest you hold on to your pants," the pilot commented on the radio to Merrick.
Everyone seemed to grip the sides of their seats as we entered the battle zone. Logan's hand sat in front of my hand on the handle between us. I ended up gripping his hand tightly from slight fear. I kept my eyes narrowed though to try to hide my fear. This was going to be easy. I could do this. I just had to remember Rorke's training and use it against him.
As soon as the chopper landed, us five Ghosts hopped off and jogged towards the trees. I stayed right behind Keegan with Logan behind me.
"Stay low," Merrick held his fist up and knelt for us to stop. "Don't attract any attention you don't want."
"I'll keep you on my side," Keegan whispered to me.
"No," Merrick heard him. "I'll take Hailey to the West Gates to charge on Rorke. Keegan can stay with the other soldiers to attack the main gates. Hesh and Logan, you go and take the basement it will lead you to Keegan eventually."
I glanced at Logan, Keegan, and then Merrick's back. I had a feeling this was a bad idea, but I ignored my gut and listened to Merrick's judgement. The whole splitting up part wasn't the bad idea, the idea of attacking Rorke's mansion was.
"Move out!" Merrick commanded and I sprinted behind him to stay in the cover while the others made their way around.
Stay low and I'll get to you as soon as I can. Logan came into my mind again.
Don't keep me waiting too long, Logan. I smirked inwardly.
Yeah, yeah.
"Enemy twelve o'clock," Merrick interrupted my thoughts. "Take him down, Hails."
Pulling my gun behind me, I yanked my knife out of my chest pocket and snuck up behind the unaware Federation soldier. Covering the soldier's mouth, I slit his throat and dragged him back behind the rock to Merrick.
"Good," Merrick commented and moved on.
A damn good job, Hails! Logan said in my head.
Thanks Logan. I laughed inwardly.
"Did you ever get a chance to grab your bow?" Merrick suddenly whispered to me, still crouching behind the rock.
"Yeah," I replied. "Why?"
"You're going to need it," I followed Merrick's gaze to the West Gates.
"Shit," I murmured. "I don't know if I still have the aim I used to."
"You do," Merrick turned back to me. "I know you do."
Sighing, I reached on my back for a small, black object. Flicking my wrist, I made the bow bigger. Nocking an arrow, I stood up and pulled back at the same time. Breathing deeply, I looked down the arrow to the head of one of the five Federation soldiers. Releasing my two fingers, the arrow shot away from my bow to hit the head of the Federation soldier.
