"Hailey?" someone shook me. "Hailey, baby, wake up!"
"Momma?" my young voice rang out in the darkness.
"Shh," my mom put her finger over her lips. "We need to be quiet."
"Why?" I sat up and tilted my bed-head-hair.
"Daddy and I can't be together anymore. We're going to see grandma," my mom grabbed my hand and dragged me out of bed.
"Sparkles!" I whispered loudly and I turned around to grab the sparkly pink unicorn.
My mother was putting me in my car-seat when a threatening voice snapped. "Where do you think your going?"
My mother ignored the voice and got in to start the truck quickly. She backed up wildly and then started driving quickly away from my screaming father.
"You listen to me, Hailey," my mom turned halfway around to look at me. "Your father is a very bad man and if we ever get away from him, I want you to always know this!"
"Okay, mommy," I said clutching Sparkles tighter to my chest.
"Oh shiiii-
My mother's voice was cut out from the big booming sound in front of us. The truck was flipped up in the air to land back on four wheels in the grass on the side of the road. My mother had, somehow, come to the backseat to wrap her arms around me.
"You stay right here! You hear me, Hailey! Don't move!" my mother yelled over sounds of guns.
Pulling out a rifle from underneath the seat, my mother slammed the door and ran off into flames- towards the sounds of the guns.
"Mommy!" I pounded on the door. "Mommy!"
Pouting and sitting back, I stroked Sparkle's fluffy mane. "Guess it's just you and me, Sparkles."
When a blast came from a ways away, I widened my eyes and looked out the window. Something sharp seemed to hit my heart then- something so painful that I let out a scream. Opening the door, I fell out of the truck and ran towards the way my mother had gone. Behind me, the truck exploded from a missile.
"Mommy?" I cried out, tears running down my face in fear. "MOMMY!"
"Shit!" a deep voice yelled.
"To the left!" another cried out.
When a bullet zinged past my head, I ducked down and then screamed. "MOMMY!"
"I'm here, Hailey," my mother's arms suddenly wrapped me up. "I told you to stay in the truck."
"It blew up mommy," I tilted my head.
My mother only smiled at me. "That's a good girl. Your instincts, they're good, so trust them. They need you." Her voice was getting weaker.
"Mommy, what's wrong?" I pulled away from her to see blood spreading throughout her tummy.
"N-nothing. Hailey, run. Run far. Now!" my mother panted and rested back on the yellow grass.
"Mommy!" my instincts kicked in. "You're dying!"
"Katie!" a sad voice cried out.
When I looked to my left, I saw three men walking out from the flames. They had black masks on and black uniforms. They looked like ghosts in the night with the smoke coming up around them.
