Bucky walked up to the band and asked them to play something slow. The plan was to swing dance, but they quickly realised that that wouldn't work in Y/N's dress. She just wanted to cut up the godforsaken thing. But it was a Claire McCardell dress, anyone who knew something about fashion wouldn't lay a finger on it but Y/N's main motivation was that it belonged to Peggy.

The band started playing a slow but jazzy tune. Y/N didn't recognise the music but it must have been a waltz with a modern twist because everyone started dancing while Bucky came back to Y/N.

"May I have this dance, fair lady?", asked the brunette man whit a slight smirk while the bowed. "Shut up and dance with me. People are going to stare, questioning why we stand in the middle of the dacefloor but don't do anything."

Bucky obeyed and the pair started to dance. "I'm probably horrible, I haven't danced like this since middle school. I'm sorry, I really am.", informed Y/N awkwardly. "Don't be, you're really not that bad. A girl once broke my toe, it doesn't get much worse than that." "Don't underestimate me Barnes. You don't know what I am capable of.", joked Y/N.

It was time for Bucky to lift Y/N in the air, only she didn't know. So when he lifted her she shrieked but thankfully no one notived. Bucky quietly laughed, "You really don't now how to dance." "Well, they don't teach it in pilot school.", defended Y/N.

They swirled around in silence for a bit. Bucky bowed and with that the dance ended. Y/N couldn't wait for this moment, she didn't know why she wanted to dance. I mean the could swing dance but other than that she was useless.

They decided to leave the bar and go look for something else to do but because of the war there wasn't much they could do. It ended just being a nice stroll through New York City, Brooklyn to be more specific. If you think about it, it was a little dangerous.

They walked in silence until Bucky spoke up, "So, tell me about Germany. Well not Germany now. I-. *sigh*", he rubbed his face. "Just tell me about your childhood, okay?" Y/N told him what she told Peggy. There wasn't much to say.

"What about you?", curiosity could be heard in Y/N's voice. "Not much happened 'til I turned eight. I had to repeat my first schoolyear. I was the family dissapointment, still am. My sister Rebecca was the pride of my parents. Always responsable and perfect in school. Anyways, I met Steve that year. I went to wash my hands after I dipped a girl's pigtail in ink and got it all over my hand. And there was Steve, having his head pushed into a toilet. Long story short, all three of us got detention, because I decided to jump in and help Steve by punching the bully. Me and Steve instantly became best pals. Which only got me a black eye. Then came the depression. But it could have been worse for us. My ma could always put something on the table. I got my first job and apartament with Steve shortly after his mother died. The war bagan and I was drafted. Steve wanted to become a soldier too, he somehow did it and became big. And here we are. Me on a date with you."

The two arrived at the Hudson river.Wow, he had a horrible childhood too. We're so similar yet so different. What did Aunt Bertha say? Opposites attract? She isn't craz- "Ahhhh, this can't be true. The dress. Peggy's going to kill me. Oh my gosh. Bucky where are you? This can't be true? Why is it always me?" They fell into the river. "How did we not see it. I mean we could have been blinded by eachothers perfect looks, but still. Ugh, come on. There's a ladder.", said Bucky.

How can he smirk even in this situation. What if we get caught? They got out of the icey water. "Come on Peggy has an apartament near here. She lets me sleep on her couch and I pay part of the rent. Come on James, hurry up. You'll freeze.", they were practically running through Brooklyn.

In front of the apartament building Y/N realised that she forgot her keys. Obviously she rang the doorbell but nobody answered.
"Great Peg's not home yet. Guess I'll have to open the door another way.", muttered Y/N under her breath.

She took out two pins out of her hair and started picking the lock. Bucky could only stare, none of his dates before picked a lock.

Y/N felt a hot breath on her neck but asumed it was Bucky. Then a tap on get shoulder. "What do you wa-" It wasn't Bucky, it was a police officer.

"I just wanted to ask what you're doing Ms." "I forgot my keys inside and now I can't get in. I need to change my clothes because we fell into the river.", explained Y/N. "You expect me to belive this sto-"

"Y/N, Bucky what happened to you two?", asked Peggy. "Long story.", sighed Bucky. "Officer, this woman is my flatmate? She probably forgot get keys. There's nothing wrong?, explained Peggy. "What's a flatmate?", asked Bucky But no one noticed or cared to explain.

The officer left and Peggy said, "Bucky, I cant give you dry clothes, but I can call a taxi for you." "Yeah, that'll be fine.", answered Bucky absent-mindedly. "Come on Y/N, you will get a cold", Peggy started to sound like Y/N's mother.

"Goodbye, James.". Bucky kissed her cheek and said "See ya tomorow, doll." His taxi arrived and Y/N hurried inside.
