The next two months passed quickly. We didn't find anything connected to Hydra. It's mid-december and I can't wait to get Christmas off. I'm planning on going back to Germany to visit some graves and aunt Bertha. If it doesn't work out I'll stay here and celebrate with Bucky and his family. His sister seems to like me, his mother is a bit different. I don't think I'll see Howard for the holidays, he's still hiding somewhere, only Mr. Jarvis knows where he is. The men at the SSR think I'm only there to take their lunch orders, all except Bucky and Steve.
I am getting ready to go to work. As I step out of my apartment my landlady greets me together with a new resident. She says her name is Dorothy Underwood. Lie. The first thing I noticed was her broach, the same as my mothers. The second were the scars on her wrist, scars handcuffs would make. She works or worked for Hydra. I'll have to keep a close eye on her. I greet her and she tells me to call her Dottie.
After I say goodbye I go out into the street, it's full of people. I greet Rose and walk to my desk. Before I sit down I start talking to Peggy, Steve and Bucky. I tell them about the smell of seafood in the apartment next to me, they understand what I'm trying to say. We decided to say seafood instead of Hydra. I guess I'm not going home anytime soon because of Dottie. Peggy is going back to Hampstead to visit her parent and her brother's grave. She wants to introduce Steve to them, meaning that he is going to England too. It will only be me and Bucky hunting Hydra.
The day was boring. Bucky took me to a little café in our lunch-break where we talked about Dottie. I'll tell her I'm going home for Christmas and put up 'traps' to see if she broke into my apartment while I was gone. I don't know where I'm going to live yet but I'll figure it out. After we went back to the office I did some paperwork about a robbery. Boring.
1 week later
Peggy is so lucky. She's sitting on a plane, probably enjoying the view while I'm sitting in the SSR office doing *surprise* paperwork. I just have to survive today, then I'll be free for two weeks.
I breathe in the cold winter air as I walk out of the building. The streets are decorated beutifuly, some people are walking around in a hectic pace to finish their christmas-shopping. I'll have to do it too.
I walk into the Griffith-Hotel and greet Dottie. She tries to hide her happiness when I tell her that I'm going away but she fails. "Well then, Y/N/N have fun with your relatives in Germany." Definitely Hydra, the only person I told I'm from Germany is Angie and she swore not to tell anyone. Dottie is a spy and she's on me. Who else would she be spieing on? I excuse myself and ask Angie to help me pack. She found a little apartement for me in Harlem.
We pack two suitcases full of fancy dresses. I wanted to take simple stuff but she insisted for me to take the most beautiful things I own. "Girl, you have to dress to impress. I have a feeling Sarge has big plans.", says Angie. I blush. "No, I don't think so." She gives me a knowing look and invites me to eat some pie. It's a random proposal but I agree. Who wouldn't eat their feelings. I'm nervous, what if it's true? Does Bucky have plans? I dismiss the thought and continue eating the pie.
After I go back to my apartment I put up the 'traps'. I string at the door and a needle between my clothes in my dresser. The needle would move if someone moves the clothes. I decided to go down to the basement and do some more laundry before I go to bed. I hoped no one is there at this hour but of course I had bad luck. Dottie is there and she smiles at me sweetly. I smile back and she leaves. I finish my laundry and walk up the stairs.
I take a quick shower filled with wild thoughts. You don't want to know about them. I put on a yellow nightgown, brush my hair and go to bed.
