Mikey sighed, looking down at the tiny orange container that held 50 pills.
"They'll help you. Make you happier, teach you to laugh again." The doctors claimed. Mikey has a sense of humor, however no one was there to listen to the jokes he told. Mikey does smile, especially around Gerard, or when his mom was working late and didn't nag him first step into the house home from school. Gerard was his older brother that he'd grown close to over a shared love of comics, horror movies, and that they were both diagnosed with depression at the same age of 14. He had no common interests with his mom.I

That's what these pills were for, his major (clinical) depression. These capsules are supposed to activate happy chemicals in his brain and help him feel useful in life, and worth something. Gerard never took his, but Mikey was hopeful. Like Gerard, he had problems with addiction, but instead of alcohol and cigarettes, he turned to overeating and sometimes heroine. Gerard and Mikey both self-harmed.

After Mikey took his pill with some monster, he set out at 6 for a night on the town. Mikey always goes to this cafe, typically with Gerard, for coffee and waffles. Since Gerard was working late he decided to go alone. He put on a jacket, not because it was 40 degrees, but to hide his scars and burns. It was bright blue with red stripes at the ends of his sleeves and the hem.

He ordered his usual. Iced black coffee with syrup doused waffles. Suddenly, a not-too-bad looking guy came to sit across from him at his booth. He introduced himself as Ray, and excused himself claiming there was no where else to sit on this crowded night. After he ordered pancakes, and they say in silence, the two started to talk.

Mikey started, "Where are you from?"
" New Jersey, whole family is. " Ray responded.
Mikey nodded, and told Ray he was also from New Jersey. The two talked for quite a while, a half hour at least and didn't leave until closing time. Mikey found himself telling Ray personal things he never told anyone but Gerard before. Stuff like his abusive mom hitting him and killing his fish and his non-existing father, or like his first therapist visit. Also, happy things like their favorite shows and movies. Ray kept up the conversation with how he has to work 3 jobs, and how he sleeps on the floor in his own room.

The conversation ended with Mikey asking Ray if he'd like to come over, since Gerard was staying with Frank, and stay the night. Mikey knew they were moving fast, especially at 16, but he has a good gut feeling. Ray nearly beamed at this and said a very excited yes. Mikey notices he was shivering and gave him his jacket. Ray only glanced at his marked arms once, and respectfully took the jacket not saying anything about his scars, but whispering a quiet 'thank you '.

Ray and Mikey got settled on the couch. He turned on the tv to CSI. Ray noticed the little orange bottle on the counter in the kitchen behind them. Now he stared, but still only for milliseconds. Mikey fell asleep on top of Ray. Ray just closed his eyes, getting a good night sleep for once with his arm around his new lover.

When they woke, Ray told Mikey on his way to the kitchen to take his medicine. Mikey just smiled and nodded. He finally had someone who cared.
