The whole bloody plot changed without me realizing. The four shot used to called Nicwardness but now it's called The Connection.

.............................................................................

Nico stood there. He just stood there watching Annabeth call Chiron and the ambulance simultaneously. Annabeth turned to him with tear filled eyes and she shouted at him, but her words made no sense to him.

Percy is dying...

was all his mind repeated.

He could tell that the connection between Percy and his body was rapidly fading, and he knew it was all his fault. When he'd gotten hit by the truck, he'd passed out immediately but could still feel the thin connection between his soul and body. As Percy carried him back to his apartment, He made up his mind. He wanted to die.

He tried to break his connection and when only the last strand was left, the connection rebuilt itself and he was forced back into his body. Every soul has a chance at trying to rebuild its connection but usually they aren't strong enough to do so. Nico was a son of Hades, so it had been easier on him.

The reason for his death wish was simple.

He had no purpose on Earth.

With Percy's heart devoted to Annabeth and hers to his, Nico had nobody. Friends would never understand the pain and suffering of his life, they didn't even know about it. And when he opened his eyes from his body, Percy was barely alive and Annabeth was screaming.

Realization dawned on him and he froze in horror at what he had done. The connection was thinner than thread. Percy was the only one who can save himself.

Annabeth screamed for Apollo and all the gods and he could feel the temperature of the room get warmer. They were coming.

The Olympians except Zeus materialized there and Apollo rushed forward to lift Percy up and take him to the bedroom. A gust of wind blew the windows apart and Zeus appeared angrily.

"It is frobidden!" he yelled.

"Rules can be bent, brother. I trust you would bend them if it was Jason on the line!" Poseidon yelled back, pushing Zeus away. Nico watched the commotion but something inside him grew warmer. He turned to Percy and Annabeth. Annabeth was kissing Percy and crying as Apollo explained to her that he was helpless. He watched as Annabeth kissed Percy again and that something grew warmer. He knew that rebuilding a connection meant reliving your life in a split second and it was possible to be aware only if a child of Hades helped. And even if he did, he knew the risk. Nico concentrated. He can do this. He concentrated on that warm feeling. The warm connection he had with Percy in his heart. He was going to help Percy.

The connection got stronger.

Nico's eyes grew misty as he realized that Percy didn't need his help.

It was all Annabeth. He saw through Percy's subconcious mind. He saw an image of Percy being pulled onward a canoe by Annabeth.

The rebuilding speeded up as he watched Annabeth put her hand on his heart as she realized that he was healing. The next moment a loud scream escaped Percy and he arched off the bed.

His eyes shot around the room in panic and they stopped on Annabeth. They kissed and Nico crumpled the bottom of his shirt. The Olympians disappeared and Nico was left staring at reality.

Percy broke away from the kiss and hugged Annabeth. He faced Nico in the hug and looked deep into Nico's eyes.

Nico's eyes widened.

He knows.
